Sophie or Issie?

Do you prefer Sophie or Issie (nickname for Isabelle)? My DH prefers Issie but I think I’m leaning towards Sophie.

We don’t know what we are having but we think we have a boys name so that’s something.

Thanks in advance

Issie/Izzie definitely more than Sophie.

alexdgr8 · 28/01/2021 23:38

Sophie is a proper name. wisdom.
issy sounds like a fizzy drink

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 28/01/2021 23:40

Prefer Sophie to Issie.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/01/2021 23:55

Sophie would be my choice of the two. Isabel is beautiful and the Issie/Izzy nn is cute, but Isabelle/Isabel/Isobel will always have spelling issues which could be annoying.

Bluesername · 29/01/2021 00:30

Sophie, or even better, Sophia.

I don't think of Issie being a name for Isobel because no-one says Iss-a-bel, they say Izz-a-bel.

KirstenBlest · 29/01/2021 10:20

Sophie. I don't like Issie or Izzy.or the Isabelle spelling.

FoggyDay58 · 29/01/2021 10:24

I know a baby girl born recently called Issa Sophia, which I think is beautiful.

KirstenBlest · 29/01/2021 10:35

Issa is a boy's name.

Monkeytapper · 29/01/2021 10:37

Sophie

micc · 29/01/2021 11:44

My name is Issie and I spell it that way too. My full name is Isobel.
Sophie is nice too, she will be called Soph though how do you feel about that nn?

lalalalands · 29/01/2021 11:56

I think Sophie looks and sounds much nicer than Issie

RuthW · 29/01/2021 12:19

Neither to my taste but Sophie is definitely less popular.

Firebird83 · 29/01/2021 16:13

Sophie

HerNameIsY0shimi · 29/01/2021 16:18

Sophie

And I also prefer Sophie to Sophia fwiw.

Alwayswrongneverright · 29/01/2021 17:11

Really don't like issie. I have a beautiful 11 year old Isabel who at the moment prefers being called Izzy. Woe and betide anyone who dares spell it issy, she goes mad! Sophie is OK, but doesn't do much for me

bourbonne · 29/01/2021 17:25

Issie sets my teeth on edge - it doesn't make sense with English spelling and pronunciation conventions. I always want to pronounce it with an S.

Don't even get me started on Isie Suttie - is that Izzy too?

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 17:35

Are you saying it with a z sound?

Issie to me rhymes with sissy

partyatthepalace · 29/01/2021 19:33

Both Sophie and Isabel are lovely (prefer the simpler spelling) - it’s normally Izzie rather than Issie though?

I knew an Issy short for Felicity at school.

FenEel · 29/01/2021 19:38

Sophie

iwontfloaatt · 29/01/2021 19:46

I assumed Issie was pronounced to rhyme with "sissy". If it's pronounced the same as Izzy, it doesn't make sense by standard English spelling norms.

allycat4 · 29/01/2021 21:08

Sophie = wisdom

daisypond · 29/01/2021 22:00

Sophie. Issie isn’t a name.

Dotinthecity · 29/01/2021 22:03

Sophie is lovely, Issie just sounds like a hissing noise.
