Bea and Herbie?

Hi,
My little girl Bea (Beatrice) is getting a baby brother. We love old lady/man names and really like the name Herbie but not Herbert. Do you think the B sound in both names is too much together? Thanks so much!

Yes I think they are too close.

percheron67 · 27/01/2021 21:45

Herbie is dear little Volkswagen who starred in quite a few films.

Whatsyourflava · 27/01/2021 21:45

Love the name Herbie and think it sounds great with sibling name

MagicMatilda · 27/01/2021 21:48

Bea is the most gorgeous name, adore it and I also love Herbie. You have lovely taste however I think Bea and Herbie together doesn’t sound quite right.

Chunkymenrock · 27/01/2021 21:49

I'd say it's too similar tbh,

Wishiknewtheanswer · 27/01/2021 21:56

Thanks for the feedback :) any other suggestions to go with Bea?

Love it and the similar sound wouldn't bother me

Also like Albie (same sound) or Alfie or Arthur

littlemisslozza · 27/01/2021 22:04

Yes, too similar.
Freddie
Toby
Arthur
Zach
Oscar
Dylan
Rafferty (Raffi)
Archie
Henry

Whatsyourflava · 27/01/2021 22:05

Laurence Laurie

littlemisslozza · 27/01/2021 22:05

also,
Wilf (Wilfred)
Bertie

BaronessVonCake · 27/01/2021 22:16

Too similar I think.

Plus I think Herbie could be cute for a child but wouldn't suit an adult.

How about Bea and
Frankie
Ezra
George
Fred
Otis
Otto
Henry
Elliott
Clement (clem)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/01/2021 22:19

Beatrice nn Bea was a lovely choice - classic but with a sweet nickname. I'm less keen on cutesy Herbie and it is a lot of "bee" sounds with his sister's name anyway.

Classic/traditional names like Henry (nn Hal/Harry), Frederick (nn Freddie), Edward or Edmund (nn Eddie/Teddy), Alfred (nn Alfie/Freddie), Robert (nn Robbie/Bertie), Wilfred (nn Wilf/Freddie), James (nn Jem/Jamie) or Phillip (nn Pip/Flip) work with Beatrice to me.

partyatthepalace · 27/01/2021 22:36

Bea is lovely. They are a bit similar. But also OP you can’t give someone Herbie as a full name surely, it’s cute but he isn’t going to be a baby for ever...

How about Frankie, Charlie, Joe, Lawrie, Albie, Artie, Dickon, Robin, Teddy (but I would put Francis/Franklin, Charles, Joseph, Lawrence, Albert, Arthur, Richard, Robert, Edward on the birth cert) - or, Tobias, Barnaby/Barnabus, Max, Noah, Zackary, Jude

Wishiknewtheanswer · 28/01/2021 15:58

Thanks for suggestions! I had worried about Herbie being too cute but my husband loves it. I adore Wilfred but my husbands name is William.. do you think that is too close? Will and Wilf Hmm

OP posts:
Cbeebiesrehab · 28/01/2021 16:43

I thought Wilfred straight away!
Definitely not too close to William.

YouWontBelieveYourEyes · 28/01/2021 16:59

I adore Wilf but Herbie is too similar, it’s also too cutsie. Fine for a toddler not an adult. Go for Wilf!

Calmondeck · 28/01/2021 17:27

I think Will and Wilf are too similar in one household. One of them would have to get a nn (though I guess Will will be dad/daddy/papa the majority of the time!)

The Bea and Herbie similarity wouldn’t bother me. Herbie can be Herb as an adult. Alternatively Hubert/Hubie/Hugh/Bertie/Bert.

Passiveobserver · 28/01/2021 20:17

Yes to the previous suggestions of Bertie/Bert.
Bea is a gorgeous name Smile

ClementineFox · 28/01/2021 23:31

I love Bea and Herbie, my only concern is what he’d be called when he was a grown up - Herb? Herbert? I can’t imagine a grown man called Herbie!

Wilf, however, works well as a little boy and a grown man, and Bea & Wilf is gorgeous!

MercyBodle · 29/01/2021 08:43

I like Bea and Herbie. I would put Herbert on the bc though.

glomerulus · 29/01/2021 08:49

My DC have similar(ish) names, but I figured that they don't come as a pair, they're both individual people. It's not going to be an issue when they're grown ups, is it?

So if you both love Herbie, I think you should go for it Smile

YouWontBelieveYourEyes · 29/01/2021 09:20

Bertie is another one of those twee cutsie names that belongs on a toddler or a puppy.

Sausagedog1 · 29/01/2021 09:39

Love Bea and Herbie, he could be nicknamed Herb when he's older. Bea and Herb

Same4Walls · 29/01/2021 09:42

@Sausagedog1

Love Bea and Herbie, he could be nicknamed Herb when he's older. Bea and Herb
That would only work if the OP always said it that way round though. If she ever swapped the names you realise just how similar they are as she would then be effectively only saying one name Herb Bea = Herbie.
Wishiknewtheanswer · 29/01/2021 10:16

Thanks guys! Really interesting to see everyone’s thoughts!
