Is it even a boys name?? What are your thoughts??

I think it is! I would probably go Alex/Alexander with Lex as a nickname though.

ItisLikethis · 26/01/2021 21:48

In the comic book, Lex Luther is the name of Superman's arch enemy.

Sounds too much like the feminine 'Lexie'.

littlemisslozza · 26/01/2021 21:48

Lex Luther is the baddie in Spiderman. That's what comes to mind for me. Prefer Alex if I'm honest.

Sauvignonblanket · 26/01/2021 21:49

I know someone called Lex - short for Alexei

PansyIvy · 26/01/2021 21:50

There’s also Leks which is definitely a boys’ name.

littlemisslozza · 26/01/2021 21:50

Superman not Spiderman!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/01/2021 21:50

It's unisex, but leans towards the boys side imo thanks to the most famous Lex (Superman baddie Luthor). It's a great nickname for Alexander (as long as your surname doesn't start with a L!) - like the similar Xan, it has a modern, cool feel to me.

I'd probably stick Alexander on the BC though - both because most people will assume that anyway and it also makes it clearer for official things that he's male (but call him Lex from Day 1, to avoid the Alex nn).

partyatthepalace · 26/01/2021 22:03

I have only heard it for girls (as short for Alexandra or Alexia), but no reason it couldn’t be short for Alexander or Alexis for a boy - do give him a full name though,

Ellada19 · 27/01/2021 07:16

What about Dax?

doritodiva · 27/01/2021 08:25

Thanks all. That's who I thought of - lex Luther! Alex is good with lex as a nickname.
Haven't thought about Dax. Not sure if I'm keen or not.

I’d say it’s a girl’s name; shortened form of Lexie (which is short for Alexandra or Alexia)?

Firebird83 · 27/01/2021 17:43

I know a toddler called Lex and also one in his 80s!

doritodiva · 27/01/2021 19:13

@Firebird83 I don't know any. So that's interesting that you do.

Only if the surname is Luthor.

MercyBodle · 28/01/2021 07:06

I really like it. I think Lex on its own works fine - rather cool in fact.

LittleTiger007 · 28/01/2021 23:28

It’s a good name, it’s known by all and yet unusual. It’s definitely not a female sounding name to me.

AlexandraEiffel · 28/01/2021 23:30

I knew a Lex when I was growing up. The coolest kid in town

Fluffyandsilly · 28/01/2021 23:33

I think it’s a really cool name. I knew a Lex years ago who was Scottish and it was short for Alex. Apparently it’s a relatively common nickname or shortening for Alex in Scotland.

What a strange way to describe a child.
