What are your thoughts on Caleb for a boy. I don't personally know any but it's a name I've always really liked

I like it but I think it's one that you either like or don't.
I'd think East of Eden.

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2021 20:56

Cal is better than Cay as a nn.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 26/01/2021 20:59

Like it a lot

DumpTrump · 26/01/2021 21:02

Love it!

BaronessVonCake · 26/01/2021 21:12

Love it when pronounced kal- ebb

Not keen when it's pronounced Kay- lib

Katjolo · 26/01/2021 21:17

Gorgeous name.

crazycrofter · 26/01/2021 21:19

I have a Caleb! So obviously I think it’s a fab name...

Spidey66 · 26/01/2021 21:24

Love it, love it, love it. I don't have kids but if I did it would be a strong candidate.

lyingwanker · 26/01/2021 21:27

I love it

pontiouspilates · 26/01/2021 21:27

I really wanted Caleb if I'd had a boy. Gorgeous name.

Bluesername · 26/01/2021 21:29

I'm not keen, sorry

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2021 21:30

Love it!

I'm a fan of Noah, Caleb, Joshua, Issac and Leo etc.

I remember watching Skulks where Paul Walkers character was called Caleb and loving the name ever since.

partyatthepalace · 26/01/2021 21:59

@BaronessVonCake

Love it when pronounced kal- ebb

Not keen when it's pronounced Kay- lib

Agree with this. Kay-lib is odd.

I’m not wild about it, but is ok.

giantwaterbottle · 26/01/2021 22:02

Love it, not common but not weird

Kilcaple · 26/01/2021 22:03

Nice, and mercifully not overused.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/01/2021 22:10

I've always liked Caleb since I first heard it (as a kid, on the young boy in the TV series American Gothic - so it has a deep South feel to me). It used to be not as well known, but like similar Old Testament names Ezra, Elijah etc is has been gradually getting more popular so you need to be aware of that. I love the nn Cal too (reminds me of James Dean in East of Eden), although I worry he could get Cale instead!

Flymetothestars · 26/01/2021 22:10

Love it and not overused at all @Kilcaple , agree
Numbers have been falling for last few years too. A good time to use it

Dogonahottinroof · 26/01/2021 22:11

Is it traditional in your family? Are you Amish?

wifterwafter · 26/01/2021 22:13

I would say Kayleb but my friend calls her son Kaylub with the u almost silent. So it could be mis pronounced and is quite popular.

golddustwomen · 26/01/2021 22:23

Yes!! Love it. Very nearly was my sons name. Kay-leb is how I'd have pronounced it.

PlantPotting · 26/01/2021 22:24

Love it

RealisticSketch · 26/01/2021 22:26

The only Caleb I knew was the vicars dog because it means dog in Hebrew (or so I was told) and he was a scholar of theology and Hebrew. So I can't think of anything except dog when I hear it. 😬

marypoppinsreturns · 26/01/2021 23:37

I like it. Jacob is another similar sounding name (in my accent anyway) that I also really like.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 26/01/2021 23:43

I don't like it, I don't like how it sounds. Very harsh sounding.

I know someone with this name and countless people mispronounce it, he gets:
Cah - leb...a lot
Some people even say something that sounds like 'Cleb' when they say his name.

OhMsBeliever · 26/01/2021 23:47

I have a Caleb. He's a teenager now. It's never been shortened by anyone, except me. I shorten it to Leb (or Lebby)

Obviously it's the best name ever!
