Do these work for twins?

We are expecting twin boys and our top boy names have always been Rory and Blair. We think they would be nice on twins as they seem to have a similar vibe without being very matchy.

What do you think?

Middle names are still not set in stone but we would probably go with something traditional like Alexander, Lewis, etc,

Love Rory, but personally Blair isn't to my taste at all (I see it as a girl's name).

Not sure if you're looking for other suggestions but I see Jude, Caleb and Lucas as being a similar vibe to your chosen names.

Middle name suggestions-
Rory Alexander
Rory Benjamin
Blair Tobias
Blair Arthur

The names aren't my taste but think they work as a pair. Important things for me when naming my twins was they didn't rhyme or sound too much alike, didn't have the same initial (2 D..Smiths with same birthdate = recipe for confusion), and didn't jar (Kayden and Henry e.g.).

So from that POV they work!

NotCornflakes · 26/01/2021 18:34

Lovely names and they go very well together.

bookshop1 · 26/01/2021 18:36

Blair is growing on me now, I really like Blair Tobias Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 26/01/2021 18:38

Nice solid Scottish names. I like them very much.

Jelly4444 · 26/01/2021 18:41

Blair can be unisex I think but I would see it more as a girls name. Rory is lovely. Are you looking for a Celtic name? How about
Rory and Oran / Eoghan (Owen)? They sound lovely together.

ParisJeTAime · 26/01/2021 18:53

I also didn't realise Blair could be a boy's name.

I am not overly keen on it...don't know why that is. Think it's the bleh sound. Sounds like bleh. I also don't like Blake, which is a popular enough name, so probably just me!

Suggestions:

Toby
Hugo
Jesse
Jude (already suggested and I think it goes well with Rory)
Guy
Caspar
Sebastian
Oscar

I love Rory!

I'm not so keen on Blair - mainly because it just doesn't have such a solid tradition as a boys name - it's mainly taken off as a modern American girl's name.

Other Scottish first name thoughts - Kester (a S version of Christopher), Struan, Alistair, Angus, Hamish, James (nn Jamie), Alexander (nn Sandy, Alex or Alec). Or S surnames more often used as boys first names - Fraser, Campbell, Cameron.

Or other UK wide names that might go nicely with Rory - Patrick, Guy, Jude, Joel, Jerome, Nat (Nathanial), Jonah, Issac, Arthur

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2021 19:12

I don't see Blair as a girl's name.

The names are fine if you are scottish, but Blair sounds like Blare in some accents.

user1494050295 · 26/01/2021 19:13

Blair was the name of the girl in less than zero

UpTaeHighDoh · 26/01/2021 19:16

Great names and they would suit siblings really well.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2021 19:17

but Blair sounds like Blare in some accents they're literally the same sound. How do you differentiate??

Anyway op o think they're fine, you love them, your twins will be seperate individuals, the names are perfect

Firebird83 · 26/01/2021 19:19

I’m guessing you’re Scottish? They’re great names and go well together.

ILoveStickers · 26/01/2021 19:20

I think they work.

Blair is a girl's name in the USA, but I don't think it would read that way here. And Rory is downright unisex in the state's now, so I think they have a similar vibe from that point of view actually.

I love Rory. Blair wouldn't be my choice, but I like that it sounds different while being a similar length / not clashing.

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2021 19:20

Roary and Blare?

Jenxna · 26/01/2021 19:24

I love them! I know two male Blairs and think of it more as a boys name

percheron67 · 26/01/2021 19:32

Rory is fine. I think of Blair as a surname.

cherrypop86 · 26/01/2021 19:43

I hate Rory. Blair just reminds me of Tony Blair

Chickenwing · 26/01/2021 19:46

Love both!

Tryingtryingandtrying · 26/01/2021 19:48

Kester is a great name, not heard of it before

DreamyDreamer333 · 26/01/2021 19:50

I like Rory not keen on Blair. Maybe
Lewis
Cameron
Alexander or Alex
James

Oliphanto · 26/01/2021 19:50

Lovely - make me assume Scotland. Work well together.

CovidCakeConundrum · 26/01/2021 19:54

Blair is an American girls name to me. On a boy it makes me think on Tony 🤮
Rory is fine, although a very common dog/pony name here.

Ellieboolou33 · 26/01/2021 20:06

Blair is awful, it reminds me of the noises my children make when I've cooked something they don't like.
Rory is ok

sleepingfox · 26/01/2021 20:11

I also see Blair as a girls name (possibly because of Blair Waldorf) but other than that I think Rory and Blair go well together.
