What do you think of the name Milú? I found 2 spellings, with or without the accent (Milu or Milú). If I chose the spelling without the accent would you still put the accent on the u when you pronounce it?

Also, what do you think of Lilibelle?

Thanks!

Ok if you're an Eskimo. I mean...it's just weird OP. And Lilibelle...no. It sounds like a small dog.

BackforGood · 23/01/2021 22:48

I'm inclined to agree with FortuneFave.

Sorry.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 23/01/2021 22:50

I concur with the 2 previous posters. Sorry.

copperbopper · 23/01/2021 22:55

Mila, yes. Milu, no.

Chunkymenrock · 23/01/2021 23:00

No. I really dislike any name such as that, that has the very ugly meal/mealy sound, such as mila, emilia, amelia.

Chunkymenrock · 23/01/2021 23:00

Lilibelle sounds like a toy dolly!

Chilldonaldchill · 23/01/2021 23:03

Lilibelle isn't nice. It sounds so sickly sweet.
Milu sounds as though it ought to be some sort of biscuit. I'm not sure anything makes the emphasis be on the u bit. I would pronounce it without any emphases at all I think.

SeanChailleach · 23/01/2021 23:05

I would think Milú might be Brazilian or Portuguese? I would ask how to say it. (Is it "Meeyoo"?
I would think Lilibelle might not be English, but
both lovely names anyway.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/01/2021 00:15

I thought it was spelt Milou? It's a French nickname isn't it? (usually for Marie Louise).

And again I see Lilibelle as a "cute" nickname (a variation on Lilibet, itself a nn for Elizabeth).

Marie/Maria/Marina Louise/a (nn Milou) and Lily/Lilia/Lilian Isabelle/Annabelle (nn Lilibelle) would be nice imo.

partyatthepalace · 24/01/2021 00:21

They sound like names for small dogs.

You are having a person OP, and she will not be a baby for that long. Don’t call her of these things.

intheshallows · 24/01/2021 05:26

I know one Milu and although I think it's lovely, she's not a British national and I think it's a bit weird to pick it otherwise. I also wouldn't have been certain how to pronounce it if I hadn't already had known one and I don't think children should ever be given names where the pronunciation needs to be clarified for people.

intheshallows · 24/01/2021 05:27

Also as others have said- lilibelle sounds like a doll's name, sorry. Far too cutesy for my taste.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/01/2021 06:07

Both names are awful.

KirstenBlest · 24/01/2021 14:13

Wasn't Milou Tintin's dog?

Lilibelle is too twee.

YoniAndGuy · 24/01/2021 14:45

Stop trying to find The Most Unusual Name Ever.

It doesn't make it a better name.
It doesn't make you more interesting.
It just means your child has an odd name.

Eleonorex · 24/01/2021 16:22

I am not a British National :-)

Eleonorex · 24/01/2021 16:23

Well, I respectfully disagree. I don't like usual names, it is boring. Different points of you.

KirstenBlest · 24/01/2021 16:24

I think you mean 'Different points of view', @Eleonorex.

Eleonorex · 24/01/2021 16:25

I am wondering if on this forum there are only British people who likes classic British names? It just seems so.

OP posts:
Eleonorex · 24/01/2021 16:30

LoL yes!

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 24/01/2021 16:35

There are trends certainly. The classic British names tend to be considered boring on here.

Most of the posters are british, so will tend to favour names that are already in use here.

Milu would be a bit too different, probably.

Firebird83 · 24/01/2021 22:39

Milou is better

FortunesFave · 25/01/2021 00:42

I like lovely names but not silly names. I enjoy feminine names but Lilibelle is truly silly. She'd just get called Lilly anyway...at school I mean. And Milu will constantly be misheard. People will say "What?" all the time when your child introduces themselves.

intheshallows · 25/01/2021 06:16

If the name Milu is from your familial country then I would go for it- as I said I think it's a lovely name but I would never pick it for my DC as it's not commonly used as part of British culture so wouldn't make sense for me to use it! I think people ridiculing a name because it sounds different to them because it's from another culture is cruel.

I still stand by the fact that lilibelle is too cutesy though, sorry!

Eleonorex · 25/01/2021 08:57

Thanks you! I am not British and my husband is not British so it doesn't make sense to me to give a British name unless I liked the sound. I am open to anything that sounds nice. I also find quite surprising that giving London is a cosmopolitan city, people think kids would find strange to meet other kids with not British names. Well, I live in London at least, so...
