Help me with a boys name...

Still agonising over the name for ds4. I’ve used up all my favourite names on the older three!!

Here goes - we decided on Theo, short for Theodore, dh just changed his mind and pitched Wilbur, which I think is lovely and I agreed to it yesterday but now I’m really not sure.

I like Arthur which has been strongly vetoed by dh. I also like Atticus and Otto both of which Mumsnet has already advised against.

I think I’m looking for a name that isn’t particularly common but also not so unusual that it’s not actually a name!

Please help!

Wilbur is brilliant, too many Arthurs also awful when people say Arfur. Again love Theo but loads where I live .Have always loved Otto & Hugo , Atticus is really out there , but I love it .

@Mabelann my question would be why you've vetoed the names you liked based on Mumsnet? If they are names you like, it wouldn't bother me what others said. Everyone will always have an opinion

Mabelann · 28/01/2021 21:13

I guess the reason i listen to other people’s opinions is because naming a child feels like a big responsibility. You don’t want to give a child a name that a large percentage of the population would have a negative reaction to just because you happen to like it. The child has to live with that name.

That's really true op! BUT, I honestly don't think a huge proportion of people would object to Atticus or Otto? Even really straightforward names, like James and William, some people strongly object to on here Smile.

But I agree, if everyone says it's awful, maybe it is. But loads of people seem to like Otto and Atticus, so think you'd be fine there.

ScottishLassie91 · 28/01/2021 23:16

@Mabelann I agree with you on that one, some of these threads are brutal lol but if you love it, don't be disheartened. I've seen loads of posts on here of people who say they hate the name and you think to yourself, it's really not bad or you love it!

Even my gran hated my brother's name that was picked out and said she wouldn't even call him it when he was born. It wasn't an uncommon name at all, just not her pick. That is his name now and she calls him it lol x

Also, the name Otto is lovely ☺️
I'd agree on Theo that it's very cute but seems to be increasing in popularity, just thinking of some friends I know who have called their little ones that.
I also see a lot of people suggesting Otis as an unusual name on different posts but in the past year I've known 2 babies called that so I don't ever think of it as being unusual now! X
