Losing my mind.......

I can't find a boys name that I love that my OH will also consider....

Do you have to love a name or is like ok and then it grows on you 🤔

We still have until May but it's really starting to stress me out or maybe I'm overthinking it

It doesn't help that my OH and I clearly like names that are in no way similar

We had the same problem and ended up with a compromise on both sides. His name wasn't even on either of our original lists! I couldn't imagine him being something else now.

DinosaurDiana · 21/01/2021 17:47

You’ll settle on one eventually, sometimes it’s best to have a couple in mind and wait until you see which he suits.
If you get desperate there’s always Bob.

For DS we had a name when he was born and that with loved. With DD I had a horrendous pregnancy and when she was born I was still pretty mentally unwell. As a result I just couldn't name her and it became really stressful. She was without a name for 2 weeks and we heard a name we thought was 'okay' on the tv. We named her that and it's really grown on me and now I couldn't imagine her as anything else. It is difficult and sometimes overthinking it makes it worse!

@DinosaurDiana Bob it is 😂😂

What names do you like and what names does your husband like?

Babydust13 · 21/01/2021 18:11

@Aquamarine1029 I like Ralph, Archer and Harrison

He likes Axel and Sonny

The only slight middle ground we found that we both don't mind is Stanley but again don't love it

I think Axel, Archer, Hudson, Harrison and Sonny are all of a similar genre. I wouldn't say Ralph is but the others have a similar vibe to me. I prefer Stanley much more though, it's far classier.

Swearwolf · 21/01/2021 19:04

We had similar lists and ended up with Franklin. Vincent was second on the list.

Sausagedog1 · 21/01/2021 20:36

We had the same problem. I liked names that are quite cute or American sounding (Barney/Barnaby, Jesse, Cody, Coby, Jasper)
He hates names in those categories and likes names he thinks are cool and strong and he can imagine wanting to be called himself.

We agonised and agonised and in the end we found a compromise on a name that is more his taste than mine. But in all honesty I'm quite glad we did now. I think he will thank me when he is a man.

Sausagedog1 · 21/01/2021 20:38

I like your husband's names best personally, I don't mind yours but really not keen on Stanley.

daisypond · 21/01/2021 21:29

I think your names are of the same vibe, not including Ralph.

Fletcher
Stellan
Lennon
Erik
Jenson

FluffyEggsontoast · 21/01/2021 22:38

How about Sidney or Seth as you like Sonny and Stanley

You will eventually find something. Just don't compromise to the point that you use a name that you don't love and you feel doesn't really reflect you. Keep your preferred list going, try to add to it, and see if something on it grows on him.

I hope that it is not just you trying to see if names will grow on you - is he doing that too? It's just that this site often throws up situations where there is a power imbalance over names, ie 'we have to agree' is code for he gets to veto all hers, while she gets to 'compromise' and 'grow to like' one of his.

Babydust13 · 22/01/2021 08:55

@MercyBodle thank you that's a very good point I do feel like it will be me that ends up compromising although Sonny is starting to grow on me but not sure how much

We have time I'll keep looking

@MercyBodle

Whilst I get your point i also think we have to remember that mn id predominantly female posters and due to this we are less likely to hear the female side of an scenario like yours if the female knows that eventually one of her choices will prevail.

Op none of my 4 children has names I thought my children would be called. They are late teens early 20s now and I love their names. They all grew into them.

Dd1 has a name dh picked (she didn't look like the name we had agreed om but did look like this name)
Dd2 has a name i picked dh tweaked slightly he liked the a ending over the e ending
Ds is the only boys name we ever agreed on my original suggestion but it was one we both took time to grow to like.
Dd3 my choice as dh felt he had dd1s name that he loved so my choice as long as he liked it and he does.

This came.after hours of discussion debating and re visiting lists. Now I cant see them as anything but those names.

Also for what ita worth I dont think your lists are that far apart im sure you will find one

Babydust13 · 22/01/2021 12:02

@Enko thank you
