Thoughts on Cary for a boys name? Too out there?

i really like it .

It does sounds a bit unisex I think so you need to bear that in mind, but I actually quite like it - it makes me think of Cary Grant so feels "Old Hollywood".

Thanks both. My OH suggested it and I had never even thought twice about the name other than I know a Carrie (girl) but I like the idea of Cary Grant and it being quite unique for a boy.

I assumed you meant for a girl and was going to say 'I'd spell it 'Carrie' '.

I hear pp reminding us that the film star was called Cary Grant, but to my ears it just doesn't sound right.

I quite liked this for DS, but spelt Carey. No go with DP. I like it.

If you are worried about Cary sounding too feminine, you could consider the similar Clark? (as in Clark Gable, although some people may think Clark Kent instead!)

Cary as in Grant sounds too feminine without Grant at the end (as we know he was a fella). Cary pronounced ‘Carey’ sounds like a hole in your tooth.

Love it first though Cary grant so what’s not to love?! 👍

Long as you see happy with it being unisex - eg Carey Mulligan - plus a few Carrie-short-for-Carolines.

I used to know a girl called this and love it on a girl. There was a male one in the good wife and it suited him too though.

Erm, same "old Hollywood" feel (Clark Gable as I mentioned). Clark can have a vintage/retro appeal like Cary - nothing like Carl which is a popular European variation of Charles

Is it pronounced Care-y or Carrie?

Cary Grant pronounced it like Carrie I believe. Not sure how other famous male Cary's pronounce it eg. Cary Elwes or Cary Fukunaga.

I'm not keen. And I would assume Carrie, girl, if I heard it.

Clark always makes me think of the creature from One Fish Two Fish who the kids find in the park (in the dark) and bring home.
