Okay so I've loved this name ever since I was a girl for my first daughter, but absolutely everyone I've said it to despises it๐Ÿ˜‚

Nala Carmen

First and middle name.

Nice or awful?

@ParisJeTAime

Nia is similar and lovely imo. It is Welsh. There is also Neveah, which I quite like, (v unpopular on MN though)!
Nevaeh, surely?

I mean, having 'heaven' spelt backwards is one thing. Having 'heaven' misspelt backwards is just bonkers!

ParisJeTAime · 19/01/2021 08:25

Yes, you're right of course, Nevaeh! Excuse typo.

PattyPan · 19/01/2021 09:30

Awful - Nala is too popular as a cat name and the ah sound repeated in Carmen doesnโ€™t sound good.

Natalia/Natasha?

Pukkatea · 19/01/2021 11:20

I know 4 people who own dogs, 3 of them called them Nala.

I think Carmen is one of those names where you really do need a Spanish link (maybe because it's my Spanish grandmothers name, it is just so overwhelmingly Spanish to me). Or if you're Hilaria Baldwin.

Pukkatea · 19/01/2021 11:21

For what it's worth, when I was a child I was convinced I would have two sons who I would name Essex and Sussex.

emmathedilemma · 19/01/2021 12:22

awful
Nala would suit a german shepherd but not a child

finallychangedmyusername · 19/01/2021 12:42

Nala is all Lion King to me, sorry. Carmen - all I see is Car-men although I appreciate that it's a real name/has history.

babyno2pending · 19/01/2021 15:59

@Neptunesgiraffe

Nala is Alan backwards. I like Carmen, though.

@Lass67

I also heard โ€˜gnarlโ€™ with Nala and donโ€™t think itโ€™s nice although I picked up the lion king reference. Nahla is a bit softer especially with the quite strong Carmen.

I know a baby Carmen who is white and itโ€™s nice on her. Made me think of Carmen Sandiego.

The baby would be half Indian half white, I'm leaning towards Carmen as a first name now:)

There is a lady at my work called Carmen from Yugoslavia so I wouldnโ€™t necessarily think Spanish. I would think opera fan though Smile

Babydust13 · 19/01/2021 16:39

I think it's really cute ๐Ÿฅฐ just ignore other people go with your gut

user1493494961 · 19/01/2021 19:46

Not good.

Sheleg · 19/01/2021 23:12

It's the name of YouTube "star" Zoella's dog, so I automatically hear it in her nasally voice.

Namechange8471 · 19/01/2021 23:13

What about Nia?

Buttercup54321 · 22/01/2021 00:46

Nalia?
Narlia?

BurtonHouse · 22/01/2021 12:32

Sorry, this is no.help but I don't like either.

OhCaptain · 22/01/2021 12:35

Carmen is gorgeous.

Please donโ€™t call your child Nala! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

SionnachRua · 22/01/2021 13:34

Carmen is gorgeous.
Nala - hell no, cat or Disney.

KW4816 · 22/01/2021 15:22

OP, I like Nala! I pronounced it 'Narla' without any hesitation, but I do like Nahla as well. Have you perhaps considered Nola? I know of a youger Nola and people seem to really love her name.

Carmen I am not so much of a fan of, but you will always get people who like and dislike your choice! Go with what you want Smile.

Taliasometimes · 22/01/2021 15:27

Carmen is beautiful

unfortunately Nala just makes me think of the word Gnarl. Like Gnarly.... (And lions) :(

YoniAndGuy · 23/01/2021 13:53

Awful, sorry. Nala is just bland and ugly at the same time. Really depressing! Don't do it.

Nina?

Synchrony · 01/02/2021 09:58

Really surprised by all the comments on Nala. I really like it! I would assume it came from The Lion King, but hey, I love The Lion King.

EmbarrassingMama · 01/02/2021 13:03

Nala sounds like gnarly. I don't like it.
