Sibling for Juliet

mila457 · 15/01/2021 14:02

We already have a daughter Juliet, now expecting another baby. We were so pleased with Juliet and still love it - it's classic/pretty but still not that popular in the rankings. Would like a similar name for our new boy/girl so they don't feel like they got the short end of the stick!

Any suggestions welcome! What would you name a sibling for Juliet?

Quite like this list of names, described as ‘Upright Elegance’.

Thanks all for the responses!

@IckleBear I love Sylvie! I also Cecilia (rather than Cecily) and Beatrix (rather than Beatrice).

@theotherfossilsister Love Elizabeth, but can't for family reasons unfortunately

@DotDotDotDotDot Love Benjamin and Theodore, unfortunately already taken by friends

@Standrewsschool My husband is a big fan of Ophelia, but I think we can't for the same reasons we wouldn't use Romeo (ha) - too Shakespearean with Juliet. What do you think? I love Winona, but when I looked it up it worried me that it's pretty much only a name because of Winona Ryder, or Native American associations (we're English). Virginia I love with the nn Ginny - not sure I'd be brave enough though.

@Standrewsschool This is a great list, thanks!

Please keep the opinions coming! Lovely suggestions so far

Anna and Juliet sound so beautiful. Is Anna too 'simple' for your taste?

Other names I'd look at would be Clara, Victoria, Alice/Alicia.

Matthew, Oscar, Mark, Louis, Alex. I see you can't use Theodore, that would go nicely too...

TempsPerdu · 15/01/2021 15:40

Juliet is beautiful - would be top of my list for future DC but unfortunately it ‘clashes’ with DD1’s name (similar sounds but very different style).

I was at an RHS garden last summer and came across two small sisters called Juliet and Miranda - thought they made a stunning pair but might be a bit themey for your taste!

Otherwise, Juliet and:

Honor
Camille
Delphine
Clementine
Daphne
Xanthe
Tessa
Lucia
Rosalind/Helena/Marina (but Shakespeare again!)

Cassian
Auden
Nicholas (Nico)
Laurence (Laurie)
Magnus

Can’t wait to tell my heavily tattooed DD that her name is an example of “upright elegance” Grin

I'd stick with classical feeling, elegant, and underused (with a subtle Shakespeare link) like Juliet:
Celia
Rosalind
Helena
Viola
Marina

finallychangedmyusername · 15/01/2021 18:17

I love Marina with Juliet! So perfect. Otherwise seconding Claudia. Or Adelaide, Christabel, Lucinda, Anneliese.

For boys: Nathaniel, Dominic, Timothy, Anthony all spring to mind.

I think Virginia is quite a difficult name to have.
Genevieve with the NN Ginny would work as well?
