Nickname for Lars which isn't Larry..?
Also any other scandi names which might work with it as a middle name?
Thankyou Grin

I don’t think it needs a nickname

I don't think Lars really needs a nickname. He'll probably get called his surname/ a derivative of it though by friends.

VienneseWhirligig · 12/01/2021 15:38

Doesn't really lend itself to an abbreviation, but a nickname can be unrelated to the actual name anyway. The Lars I knew (my best friend's German exchange partner) was known as Spike by my friend because he had a lot of piercings.

TroosAndShoes · 12/01/2021 15:40

The nicknames that stick are usually the ones that have evolved naturally. I'm not sure that Lars needs a nickname.

midsomermurderess · 12/01/2021 15:52

Lasse is the common nickname for Lars in Nordic countries.

midsomermurderess · 12/01/2021 15:54

See eg the film maker Lars "Lasse" Hallström. His middle name is Sven.

PolarnOPirate · 12/01/2021 15:55

The one I know is Lasse.

OwenJonesCleaner · 12/01/2021 15:55

Yep - Lasse.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 12/01/2021 15:57

I don’t really understand the point of forcing a nickname like this. Doesn’t matter anyway, watch Greg Davies standup about the Baghdad nickname, one random incident will trump a forced nickname anyway Grin

PolarnOPirate · 12/01/2021 16:05

Well, yes technically, but it sounds like OP is looking for a shortening rather than an organic nickname based off the personality/escapades of the child. We have X on the birth cert but he's been Y since birth. Doesn't go down well on mumsnet but there have been precisely zero issues thus far (he's 6).

impressivelycunty · 12/01/2021 16:12

Orders?

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 12/01/2021 16:24

Lars is a fab name. I love it, we really wanted it for our DS 19 years ago but stupidly went for a 'safe' options because of reactions that with the benefit of hindsight were over the top. 🙄

What about something like Lars Torben......? It has a nice ring to it.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/01/2021 16:28

My friends DS is called Lars and in the family he is called Larsey
he is a strapping +6ft tall rugby played in his 20's

But think it's short and snappy enough to not get a nn from friends

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 12/01/2021 16:28

Regarding nicknames they can be from anywhere, my nickname growing up was Flossy or Floss (( because of my hair )) I went to school with a lad called 'leadhead' even the teachers called him it. I had no idea what his real name was until he sent me a friend request on Facebook. Grin

Namechangebuttercup · 12/01/2021 16:35

Is it's LarS or LarSH (with a sort of soft, faint SH)? I've met both. Neither had a nickname though, but one certainly had to repeat his name rather more frequently than the other!

pooopypants · 12/01/2021 16:55

IMO a nickname.sory.if 'evolves' with an already short name like Lars

Also, why call your child a name if you wnst to call them something else on a daily basis? Just call them the NN, surely? I. E. Alexander / dra on their BC but call them Alex. Just name them bloody Alex.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 12/01/2021 16:55

@Namechangebuttercup it's pronounced Laaz

sobsanta · 12/01/2021 17:00

I don't think Lars needs a nickname. It's short, one syllable, and can't be shortened to anything.

TheScurrilousFunge · 12/01/2021 18:27

Larsonist.

Or, if annoying, Larsehole.

scandimum87 · 12/01/2021 18:46

Uh oh! Do you think kids will pick on him? It's pronounced lahz.. maybe that will help?

Not everyone has a nickname and sometimes they have one which is totally different to their actual name

MoreLikeThis · 13/01/2021 13:57

It's a short strong name so it seems odd to want a nickname.

AlwaysLatte · 13/01/2021 13:57

Lars is so short surely there wouldn't be one? I know a Lars and he's always been Lars and nothing else.

yorkshireeveninglost · 17/01/2021 14:18

Anyone able to suggest a middle name which someone could put after Lars, which would give him a good nickname option?
Such as Lars Oliver? (Oli?)

Thing that sucks about Lars is that it doesn't provide a nickname.
