They’re all perfectly pleasant but boring.

@Sexnotgender

They’re all perfectly pleasant but boring.
So rude!

I like Alice.

oohmyback · 09/01/2021 14:21

Anya is lovely ❤️

PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 14:22

So rude!

But true.

Boyorgirl3 · 09/01/2021 14:23

Lol, it is a little rude but not offended.

Just out of curiosity can you give me some examples of 'not boring' names?

emmie841 · 09/01/2021 14:43

Adeline is beautiful but pronunciation issues would put me off.
I like Anya
Alice is most elegant, timeless name x

Spied · 09/01/2021 14:46

Love Alice
Like Anya prefer Ananya
Not sure if I like Rosie for an adult.
Don't like Edie.

bendybeep · 09/01/2021 14:48

I don't like Edie

Alice is my favourite from those

What about Eden?

galaxy9 · 09/01/2021 14:50

Rosie is so lovely

PatsyStone39 · 09/01/2021 14:53

Anya is my favourite.

What about Amara or Amalia?

Tavannach · 09/01/2021 14:55

I like Alice. Rosie and Edie as well, but as nn for Rose and Eden.

Boyorgirl3 · 09/01/2021 15:05

I agree @emmie841 Adeline is very pretty, I also love Emmeline but unfortunately neither flow well with my surname that has a long eeee sound.

Not keen on Eden, I'm not a fan of any unisex names for some reason.
Quite like Amara @PatsyStone39, will add that one to my list and see what OH thinks.

I love Rosie. X

Edenember · 09/01/2021 15:10

Alice and Edie are my favourites from your list.

daisypond · 09/01/2021 15:28

I like Anya (Anna is better), and Alice is OK. The other two are far too twee.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 16:01

Rosie is a little boring, although very nice. To make it non-boring i'd choose Rosa which is cool, classy, international, and strong. Edie is also sweet but Edith is much more cool and interesting. Alice is sweet, if a little dull. Anya isn't boring. Id say Anna is the boring version tans Anya the slightly edgier, cooler version.

Boyorgirl3 · 09/01/2021 16:02

@daisypond I have pondered over Anna as it is a pretty and very classic name, I just feel like I know far too many Annas plus I work with one which does put me off.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 16:04

I'd go for Rosa or Edith 100% (but not Rosie or Edie as the 'ie' makes them sound very 'of-the-moment' and I think they will seem boring and blend in with the million other 'ie' names. Of your list exactly as it is, I'd choose Anya.

What about Iris or Nancy or Alma or June or Joy?

DotDotDotDotDot · 09/01/2021 17:26

I agree that Rose or Rosa are both gorgeous, maybe Rosie as a nn when she’s young. I also had Anya on my list but the differences in pronunciation put me off, ? An-ya or Ahn-ya. I also prefer Edie to Edith.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/01/2021 17:48

1.Anya - very pretty, exotic and not too overused at the moment
2.Alice - the most classic, suits all ages and least likely to date
4.Rosie - too cutesy imo but a nice nn for more classic Rose
3.Edie - too "now" for me - a nn for "old lady trend" Edith

  • Rosie / Edie - they are twee for a grown up so I'd call her Rose (or Rosa/Rosanna/whatever) or Edith and use them as nn. I like Rose and Edith a lot - beautiful and sophisticated.
  • Quite like Alice, bit more cutesy.
  • Anya OK but prefer Anna, which isn't used much right now I don't think (it's An-ya in the UK not Arhn-ya)

Bit less popular but not unusual - Madeleine, Iris, Serena, Lara, Lois, Honor, Jasmine, Cecily, Tessa, Elodie, Clara, Felicity (last two more popular then the rest I think, but not so much as Alice/Rose/Edith.)

sandandso · 09/01/2021 20:27

Anya and Alice both nice. Rosie and Edie I don't like as given names - why not Rose and Edith, and then the nicknames Rosie and Edie will come naturally anyway but they will have a more formal, elegant option.

EdgeOfACoin · 09/01/2021 22:11

Edie is actually the one 'cutesy' name I like and think works on all ages. I knew an elderly Edie once and thought the name was really nice. Also think it works for younger ages (though prefer it as a nn for Edith).

Like Alice a lot.

Dislike Rosie, although I like Rose. Anya is okay, I just prefer Alice and Edie.
