Adeline?

So I've posted a couple of threads recently. Originally thinking of a naming our DD something classic like Emily or Alice which are both lovely, but seems a shame to use something so popular when there are so many lovely names out there.

I love Beatrix but my DH has firmly vetoed it.

We've come across the name Adeline and both kind of love it. Nickname could be Ada or Addie. Any thoughts? She would be Adeline Freda. Seems to be an old fashioned name but not too popular?

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 09/01/2021 13:16

Is it like Caroline or ad-e-leen?

torthecatlady · 09/01/2021 13:16

I love Emily, Alice, Beatrix and Adeline!
Also really like Adalaide Smile

AliceMcK · 09/01/2021 13:19

I wanna be a model.... is what springs to mine from Bread. Saying that I like Addie or Ada

Adelino · 09/01/2021 13:19

It's really pretty.
Mainly only commenting as it's so close to my mn nickname.
Which has made re think that Adele is imo a nicer name. But they are both lovely.

Arrierttyclock · 09/01/2021 13:20

Love this!

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 09/01/2021 13:21

Beautiful choice.

AliceinBunniland · 09/01/2021 13:25

I like Adeline but maybe more common than you think due to the film? I don't know though

PatchworkElmer · 09/01/2021 13:25

LOVE it.

Clickncollect · 09/01/2021 13:26

I watched The Age of Adaline film recently and thought it was a pretty band. Spelt slightly different to OP’s.

reefedsail · 09/01/2021 13:26

Love it and nn Addie is really cute too.

Clickncollect · 09/01/2021 13:26

Pretty name not band!

Hollybutnoivy · 09/01/2021 13:30

I like it but I also really like Adeliza/Adelida (Queen of England /Daughter of William the Conqueror)

busybee87 · 09/01/2021 13:31

Thanks all. I would pronounce it adda-lyne. That's my main worry to be honest- people mispronouncing it all the time!

As in it would rhyme with Caroline, as a pp asked.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2021 13:33

Love it.

Twisique · 09/01/2021 13:38

Lovely!

The character in Bread who wanted to be a model was Avaline.

GRW · 09/01/2021 13:52

It's pretty and unusual. Emily and Alice are lovely too.

GracieLouFreebushh · 09/01/2021 13:54

Love it!!

TopBants · 09/01/2021 13:55

Really like it.

FanGurrl · 09/01/2021 14:04

Pronunciation could be an issue maybe? I've known one, and it was pronounced to rhyme with Carolyn, ie 'linn' rather than 'line'.
Love the name though.

entrytohr · 09/01/2021 14:07

I love it, it's my favourite girl's name. I'd pronounce it "ah-deh-line" though with that spelling. Adelyn/n I'd pronounce "ah-deh-lynn"

Bbq1 · 09/01/2021 14:10

Yep, makes me think of Bread. That's the only place I've ever heard the name used. I couldn't get past the Bread connotations but that's probably just an age thing.

FinallyHere · 09/01/2021 14:10

It was my late mother's name, pronounced Ad-a-leen

She was named after an Aunt.

I love it, never came across it anywhere else until recently.
