We already have a daughter named Emily, if we have another girl we really like Edith or Edie, do you think these names sound ok together?

We also have a list of boys names we like, one of which is Hugo however our surname also starts with a G, we can't decide if the name flows well or not?

Emily and Edith is fine. Emily and Edie is okay but a little bit close for my personal taste.

Love Edith, and Edie is a nn for it, so I'd call her Edith, as it does sound a bit samey to be totally stuck with Edie.

I can't see a problem with a Hugo and a G surname?

Emily and Edith are fine

Edith is a lovely name and goes well with Emily.
I don't see a problem with using Hugo with your surname.

Edith and Emily sound perfect together
Love the name Edith

Depends on the surname.
Gugo George or Hugo Graham might be ok but Hugo Gordon is not.

I'm not keen on Edith/Edie personally, particularly with Emily (I'm not fond of the same initials for same sex siblings anyway but Emily is also very classic and more timeless in comparison to Edith).

Hugo would likely be fine with most "G" surnames, as long as the other sounds in Hugo aren't also repeated.

I think Edith and Edie are done with Emily. I also think Hugo is fine.

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 23:51

I really like Emily & Edith and also think Emily & Edie aren't too similar! Hugo with a G surname sounds nice to me!

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 03:39

I think they sound nice together.

I’m not sure to be honest. I love Edie / Edith but it’s very different stylistically to Emily imo. However, if you love it, go for it.
