Colson. Pronounce Cole-son.

It's a family name and at the top of our list currently. Do you think it's too out there?

I think it will forever get pronounced Coll-son.
I’m not a fan of it.

DramaAlpaca · 07/01/2021 15:38

I don't like it at all personally, but it does fit in with the current trend for surnames as first names so I wouldn't see it as 'out there' at all.

RunningFromInsanity · 07/01/2021 15:38

It’s fine, especially as it’s a family name.

(I’d pronounce it ‘Cole-son’)

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/01/2021 15:39

I thought it would be pronounced the way you say.

I think it's OK. I'm not keen on names ending with son. Just feels a bit egotistical in the same way as naming a child the same as its Dad.

lalalalands · 07/01/2021 15:41

I can't say I like it - sorry. I don't think anything is really wrong with it as such but it's quite American sounding?

HollowTalk · 07/01/2021 15:41

It sounds like coleslaw, sorry!

EmbarrassingMama · 07/01/2021 15:42

Are you american? I dislike it. Sounds like a medicine.

GlowingOrb · 07/01/2021 15:43

I like it. You will have to deal with Avengers associations, but it’s a positive character so that isn’t really a problem.

Spied · 07/01/2021 15:46

Coll-son is how I would have pronounced it and Coleson isn't your family name so you would not really want to use thatConfused.

I'd not use it.

BigusBumus · 07/01/2021 15:50

Its an OK name, I would think you were either American or perhaps slightly lower middle class if you used it, but it wouldn't bother me that much. I put it in the same bracket as Mason, Jaxon, Brent and Lennon.

Near me there is a Colson Skip hire place.

theconstantinoplegardener · 07/01/2021 15:51

Well, the first thing that crossed my mind was that school in Bristol that was named after a slave trader. I was trying to remember what it was called, and wondered if you were considering giving your child the same name . I've remembered now: it was Colston's school, so bit different to yours, but similar enough that some people might confuse them.

Hollybutnoivy · 07/01/2021 15:55

@theconstantinoplegardener That was my first thought too.

ncbby · 07/01/2021 15:57

Colson Baker (AKA Machine Gun Kelly) has this name so I'm potentially predicting a boom of a similar vein when Gen Zs as a generation start having children.

I think it's quite cute!

LiJo2015 · 07/01/2021 16:02

I like it

LiJo2015 · 07/01/2021 16:02

Sounds very american to me.

june2007 · 07/01/2021 16:05

Sounds like a Surname. It,s a no from me.

Robbybobtail · 07/01/2021 16:08

It will be pronounced Col-son and your ds would be forever correcting people. It’s very American - using a surname as a forename. Maybe use as a middle name or just use Cole?

Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 07/01/2021 16:14

Agree it's very " surname ' as a first name. Very American. I wouldn't

emmathedilemma · 07/01/2021 16:15

It's awful (you did ask!) and I'd also pronounce it Coll-son not Coleson.

Ellie56 · 07/01/2021 16:15

Sounds too much like Colston as in Edward Colston the slave trader.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 07/01/2021 16:17

Don't like it. Sorry.

SlippersForFlippers · 07/01/2021 16:19

No strong feelings either way.

I'd pronounce it cole-son

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/01/2021 16:21

Not a nice name.

TrashCanBird · 07/01/2021 16:22

Coleslaw.

DaphneBridgerton · 07/01/2021 16:27

Whats the difference between the "Coll-son" and "Cole-son" pronunciations? They are the same to me
