Colson. Pronounce Cole-son.

It's a family name and at the top of our list currently. Do you think it's too out there?

Colston Smith who plays Craig in Corrie

AriesTheRam · 07/01/2021 16:27

I meant Colson

MyHeroMakkaPakka · 07/01/2021 16:31

It's not awful, though not to my taste. As you can see from this thread you'd spend a lot of time correcting pronunciation though!

RunningFromInsanity · 07/01/2021 16:33

It’s along the same lines at Jackson, Samson, Harrison, Mason.

Perfectly usable.

emptyplinth · 07/01/2021 16:37

Fine as a middle name. A bit bland as a first name and I agree that people would say 'coll-son'.

Regularsizedrudy · 07/01/2021 16:40

It’s sounds very.. American

donquixotedelamancha · 07/01/2021 16:47

I think it will forever get pronounced Coll-son.

I dunno, I think he's going to get called colon through high school. The kids might be cruel too.

FTMF30 · 07/01/2021 16:47

Whether a name is nice or not is subjective. It's not a name I would choose but it seems nice enough to me. Certainly not one where I'd think "why on earth would they call their child that?!"

Doveyouknow · 07/01/2021 16:49

Makes me think of colston the slave trader...

Bluetrews25 · 07/01/2021 16:50

Yeah, I also thought will be shortened to Colon.
Inviting the 'You're full of shit, Colon' taunts perhaps?
Hopefully not.

2bazookas · 07/01/2021 16:53

Don't like it.

I might like "Cole" though. Short, only one way to pronounce it, and there's a family=tree link . Unusual, but plain and dignified.

lockdownbreakdown · 07/01/2021 16:54

Have it as a middle name. It's very American and that's rarely a good thing in my opinion.

Anystarinthesky · 07/01/2021 16:54

I was thinking of Colman's mustard.

I agree with emptyplinth it would be fine as a middle name.

SpiderGwen · 07/01/2021 16:55

Colson as in “His first name is Agent”?

(We may have watched an awful lot of Marvel films recently)

Juno231 · 07/01/2021 16:56

I'd pronounce it Collson and it immediately sounds like a tacky american name to me - like Colton or something.

ApocalypseNowt · 07/01/2021 16:56

Nope

EngineeringFix · 07/01/2021 16:57

It's fine.

EdgeOfACoin · 07/01/2021 16:58

I am not keen on it as a first name - maybe a middle name?

I'd pronounce it Coll-son.

clydeonabike · 07/01/2021 16:59

Yikes! People's opinions on a name... 'not your name, not your problem' Confused

Badoukas · 07/01/2021 17:12

I don't like it at all, sorry.

Pandabuzz · 07/01/2021 17:16

I initially read it as colon! I haven’t heard the name before and would have prounounced it Coll-son. It isn’t my taste but I don’t dislike it either.

Persianparadise · 07/01/2021 17:33

No reminds me of a Colon or coleslaw sorry

yuyubooboo · 07/01/2021 17:34

Not a fan, sorry

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 07/01/2021 17:36

It's awful
It's one of those surname names

StiffyByng1 · 07/01/2021 17:40

It sounds naff American. There’s better out there :)
