Does popularity matter to you?

So, my partner and I are discussing girls names we like. I suggested a name that I have loved since I was a teenager, and he likes it too (huzzah!) I told a friend this name, who pulled a face and told me that it's really popular at the moment and said I should avoid it.

I look online to see how popular it is and it was just outside the top ten in 2019.

I've never really been to fussed about popularity to be honest. If you like a name, I say go for it. But after my friends reaction, I have conflicting feelings now towards whether to use the name now.

What are your thoughts?

It did, and we thought ours would be the only one, we are finding out he isnt 🤣🤣 so i think he will come across maybe another 2 or 3 in his school.

And even then there's no guarantee that someone you know would also use it.

You could pick a name that is very popular in the UK but not much used in your area.

You could add an underused name as a middle name

My criteria for both was pretty much lower than top 10 but within top 100. However that was more of a starting point for research, if there had been something I'd really loved that happened to be top 10 I'd have been happy to use it.

If I loved it, I would use it. I have a very unpopular (but not unusual) name for my generation and I hated being the only one in my school year with it. I’d have rather been one of the Claire, Maeve or Danielles any day tbh.
