Eliza, Chloe, or?

Hi all! I'm getting close to my due date for baby #2 and we're struggling to land on a name for our little girl. At the moment our short list is Eliza and Chloe.

We have a 2.5 year old named Ava. We settled on her name years before we had her and nearly got cold feet when we found out how popular it had become in recent years. We are feeling a little reluctant about the name Chloe for the same reason, and really aren't loving the idea of having two girls with top 10 baby names (we're in Australia). Then again, Eliza will probably be pretty popular soon too with Hamilton!

Would be interested in others' thoughts on these two names. Would also be up for some other suggestions that go well with Ava.

Thanks!

Is Chloe falling now in the charts in Australia? It certainly is in the Uk, on a huge downward slope, I don't know any. It's gone from being the number 1 name in the 90s to being about to leave the top 50 here
I love the name Chloe

Good question. Looks like it's only shifted down slightly in recent years - it was #5 in 2014 and #7 in 2019.

I think Chloe fits better style wise with Ava.
I don't know any young Chloe's in NZ either.

I think Ava and Chloe are a good combination.

Ava and Chloe

DreamyDreamer333 · 02/01/2021 21:31

Chloe is lovely, it certainly doesn't seem to be overly popular in the UK.

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/01/2021 21:41

Love Chloe

Eliza is nice too but I prefer Chloe

OhTheTastyNuts · 02/01/2021 22:05

Eliza.

Chloe is a pretty name, but seems a bit 2010s to me.

DitherFlicker · 02/01/2021 22:18

Lydia?

doctorhamster · 02/01/2021 22:24

I think Chloe goes really nicely with Ava. I do t know any Chloe's under the age of 12 so I would say it's declining in popularity here (uk)

I really like Esther and Imogen at the moment.

Wigeon · 02/01/2021 22:26

Cleo instead of Chloe - less popular, still nice?

Ellmau · 02/01/2021 22:32

Chloe is lovely.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/01/2021 22:38

Both lovely but with Ava I'd say Chloe
More suggestions.

I would go for Eliza out of those options. Much prettier and fresher than Chloe.
Zoe would be a good option though - Ava and Zoe work very well together.

chocolatepowder · 02/01/2021 23:12

Chloe is dated IMO

unmarkedbythat · 02/01/2021 23:13

Chloe is beautiful

I think you should use names you really like and not care about their popularity or otherwise

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/01/2021 05:18

Eliza or Chloe aren't my cup of tea personally, but there's nothing wrong with either of them and both work with Ava (which is lovely btw, despite it's popularity it still has an old hollywood feel to me).

Names I like with Ava:
Lana (equally glam - Ava Gardner and Lana Turner!)
Grace (Grace Kelly, but Grace is top 10 like Ava)
Fay (Fay Wray)
Greta (Greta Garbo)
Clara (Clara Bow)
Vivien (Vivien Leigh)
Mae (Mae West)
Sophia (Sophia Loren)
Lillian (Lillian Gish)
Rosalind (Rosalind Russell)

I also like Stella, Esme, Lily, Nina and Lara with Ava (despite no obvious old Hollywood namesakes!)

ILoveStickers · 03/01/2021 07:31

I love Chloe - doesn't go with our last name, so use it for me! Very nice with Ava.

I think Eliza is more "now", and Ava & Eliza feels like they are just two recently popular names. Chloe was popular in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s too, so it feels less like it will date to this exact era. Ava and Chloe are nice together because they have different final sounds, too.

Thanks everyone for your honest feedback and the helpful name recommendations! Will take this to hubby 😊

I prefer Eliza, I think it’s a gorgeous name! Also liked the suggestion of Cleo that someone made.

I was born in the 1990s and feel like there were a lot of Chloes around then - it’s not my personal fave, although it’s still a nice name.

MercyBodle · 03/01/2021 12:00

I prefer Eliza. Chloe is nice enough though.
I think the suggestions of Cleo and Zoe are great for Ava's sister.

I remember reading somewhere about young sisters called ava and eve
Their mum wanted them to have easy names to learn to write

PainterInPeril · 05/01/2021 15:48

Definitely love Chloe more.
