Hey everyone, just wondered what u thought of the name Emily with middle name Jo?
Our surname is 3 syllables and is quite a mouthful so didn’t want anything too complicated!
Jo is after a male family member but thought going for Joanne was a bit much...
Please let me know your thoughts!
We didn’t want too common a first name....

Thanks in advance x

I think it’s fine. I do prefer Joanna or Josephine though.

ILoveStickers · 01/01/2021 19:45

Emily is nice, particularly if you have a tricky middle name. I might choose Josephine or Joan or Joanne for the middle name, but Jo is nice and simple too.

Firebird83 · 01/01/2021 19:45

Emily is a very common name though.

I think Emily Jo sounds great! Really pretty English rose vibe. I think people might think Jo is short for something, but doesn't really matter.

2littlegirls12 · 01/01/2021 19:49

Thanks ladies. Yes Emily is more common than we would like... the other possible is Georgia but OH doesn’t like....

Emily is extremely common and really dull. But if you do like it, it goes with Jo well.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/01/2021 19:49

If you don't want too common a name, I think you've chosen badly. Emily is very commonly used.

PlantPotting · 01/01/2021 19:50

Emily is a beautiful name! Love it. It's number 11 in the charts so depends what you were expecting
That said, it's numbers are consistently falling so the name will probably fall outside the top 15 or top 20 by the time the next official statistics are released

Katjolo · 01/01/2021 19:51

Nice names.

Suzi888 · 01/01/2021 19:52

I like both names.

ILoveShula · 01/01/2021 19:55

I'd use Josephine nn Jo/Joss/Josie as first name, if you are honouring a Joe short for Joseph.

Emily Jo Surname is nice.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/01/2021 20:06

I wouldn't worry about middle names too much (although like a pp I much prefer Josephine; it's still nice to honour a family member and Jo is okay).

Emily is also pleasant enough - it's not my personal taste (prefer the sound of Emilia) but although Emily's popular, it's a classic name and a safe choice that won't date and suits all ages. I prefer it to Georgia which has a slightly dated 90's vibe to me (although there's nothing wrong with that as such!).

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 01/01/2021 20:10

I'd be tempted to go for Emilia Josephine...

NorbertMeubles · 01/01/2021 20:15

Sorry but it is a bit dull and lacks imagination

2littlegirls12 · 01/01/2021 20:19

Thanks everyone.

I think it's lovely

finallychangedmyusername · 01/01/2021 20:27

I'm generally not a fan of nicknames, but in the middle spot it's ok. Emily is a great name.

I'd prefer:

Emily Joanna
Emily Josephine
Or
Emily Jane
Emily Jocelyn
Emily Joy

Herewegoagain4 · 01/01/2021 20:32

I think its a lovely name, I know people like opinions but its important that you love it, doesnt really matter what anybody else thinks. X

daisypond · 01/01/2021 20:35

Emily is very common. I think it’s been in the top 10 for 40 years. I’m not wildly keen but it’s fine. Josephine or Joanna or Joanne are better than Jo. I strongly dislike Georgia.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/01/2021 20:37

Emily is lovely. If prefer Joanne or Jocelin but Jo is pretty good too.

jakeyboy1 · 01/01/2021 20:40

I think Emily Jo is quite sweet.

You could also go for the French version Emilie - normally I dislike alternative spellings but I do like that.

GrannieD · 01/01/2021 20:57

If you think it's too common what about a double barrel name ? Emily-Rose , Emily-Grace or as mentioned french spelling Emilie-Rose, Emilie-Grace ? X

carly2803 · 01/01/2021 21:15

emily is beautiful - i think the jo part needs to be a bit longer?

emily joanna?
emily joanne?

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2021 21:20

OP, don't let people on here put you off a name!

I think Emily Jo is really sweet.

2littlegirls12 · 01/01/2021 21:26

I wasn’t as keen as OH on it to be honest...struggling with names this time! With DD we picked one before we knew we were having a girl!
