Just wondering really!

Sometimes I can’t explain it but I see kids and the parents reveal the name and I just don’t feel like the children suit the name?

I can’t explain why but yes I’m just wondering have any of you felt like this?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Two children I've taught spring to mind.

A tiny petite young white girl with such crippling social anxiety named Beyonce and a a young man who was not particularly bright, not much common sense or social skills named Alpha.

AnnaSW1 · 01/01/2021 18:28

Yes. My brother

Diverseduvet · 01/01/2021 18:28

Little wimpy kid called Buster.

SionnachRua · 01/01/2021 18:29

I once taught an Innocent who was anything but.

2typesofjungle · 01/01/2021 18:29

Yes, I often think that. I have a theory that those adults whose name you can never remember are the ones that simply don't suit their names.

BuzzingTheBee · 01/01/2021 18:31

A Grace who was not at all graceful

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/01/2021 18:50

Yes but not necessarily because of how they act but more what they look like.

Eg I know an Emily with dark hair. Emily is blond name
I know of ginger Gabriel. That’s a dark curly haired name.
I know there’s a name for associating hair colour with names but I can’t think of it Synthesesia or something

@BuzzingTheBee That's a bit of a shame, but the name "Grace" usually refers to grace as in "the grace of God", not physical grace. I get what you mean, though.

Not children, but I've met a Daisy and Rosie who I didn't think suited those names.
@SionnachRua I think you may have taught my nephews bully. DLS?
Nope! There must be more than one not-so-innocent Innocent running around.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/01/2021 20:04

Divine, who was anything but...

This is so true
Herewegoagain4 · 01/01/2021 20:17

Yes, infact for some reason I don't think many babies suit their name, not until they are toddlers atleast, but even then some unfortunately don't. I know an adult Daisy, she's very much a tomboy, plays rugby etc, she's definitely not a daisy.

VenusClapTrap · 01/01/2021 21:32

I met a young Seraphina who didn’t suit her name at all. It’s quite a name to be saddled with if you’re not a wafty Disney Princess type.

Dollywilde · 01/01/2021 21:34

Sometimes I think it’s an age thing. My DD was too ‘little’ for her name when born and we had a family nickname for her but as she grows she’s growing into it if that makes sense.

ellesbellesxxx · 01/01/2021 21:44

I once taught Princess.... her language was colourful and she liked to slap people who didn’t do as she wanted. Not very princess like?!

Abracadabra12345 · 01/01/2021 21:48

I often have trouble trying to “fix” a name to that child because they just don’t suit it. I have to mentally change their name from the one they should have had to the one they are actually called Smile

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 01/01/2021 21:52

I used to teach an Areal who didn't suit her name, and live near an Apollo who was just a very ordinary, polite but shy awkward skinny teen (and not Greek to possibly explain the name). I haven't seen him about in a few years - maybe he grew into his name, who knows - it's a lot to live up to.

Some nsmes just are a lot to live up to - not so much virtue names, but very poetic/ romantic/ highly literary ones.

I always wonder about kids called Cain / Kain, or Jude, especially if they have siblings...

sorryforswearing · 01/01/2021 22:05

I know two blonde Ebonys which seems totally wrong to me.

Fluffyandsilly · 01/01/2021 22:09

I met a 7ish year old about 20 years ago who had been named Keith. Poor little bugger.

NavyBerry · 01/01/2021 22:58

Met a little Precocious once who was abandoned by her parents, abused, placed with one foster family then another and she had no idea where she belonged... really sad

AngelDelightUK · 01/01/2021 23:08

I used to know twins called Precious and Princess. They were anything but. One of my neighbours is a rugby playing 15 year old called Pixie.

I’ve never met an Angel who is actually an Angel either

NavyBerry · 02/01/2021 21:10
 • Precious
17caterpillars1mouse · 02/01/2021 21:45

Yes, every child I've met named Aurora. Starting to think the name suits nobody

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 02/01/2021 22:47

I know a very small/dainty rugby playing mitzi

My dd had grace on her list... glad we didnt chose it. I think bulldozer would be more apt
Blue eyed blonde fair skinned Santiago
Blue eyed blonde fair skinned gethin
Very small/petite little boy called max
