Violet Lark

Hi all, I’ve been avoiding two nature names together as they can often sound like a name of a residential care home or a nail varnish...but I do like Violet with middle name Lark. Is it ok?

I like both names separately but not together particularly...but it might depend on your surname.

Having said that, nobody ever knows anyone's middle name do they?

Its not like you introduce yourself by your full name..."Hi, I'm Mandy Claire Jenkins"

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/12/2020 11:43

Its a bit too L heavy

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/12/2020 11:47

I like them seperately because I don't think it works to have an animal name after a colour name, if you see what I mean. But Violet is lovely.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/12/2020 11:48

I mean because it sounda a bit like 'oh look, there's a scarlett robin! Oh look, there's a violet lark!'

Tavannach · 31/12/2020 11:50

I like both names individually but agree with pp - together they sound a bit "purple bird".

Viviennemary · 31/12/2020 11:50

Violet is lovely. But not with Lark. Sounds dreadful.

MrsFluffyMuff · 31/12/2020 11:51

I love Violet

Violet lark sounds like a purple bird

KirstenBlest · 31/12/2020 11:51

Read it as Violent Lank.
Also it makes me think of a purple bird.

No worse than Scarlett Dove or Ruby Robyn.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/12/2020 11:58

Can you add another name in there? Like Violet Eva Lark or whatever? That could work?

Dowermouse · 31/12/2020 11:59

I can't not read Violent Lark.
I'm from a whole family of nature names, it gets a bit awkward when you are no longer pretty and decorative.

theyips · 31/12/2020 12:02

I love it, really cool and original. Names don’t have to ‘go’ if you love them. One of my dc is Normalname Nirvana, I love it and don’t care that it doesn’t ‘go’ Smile

Dozer · 31/12/2020 12:03

They don’t go together at all.

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/12/2020 12:07

I like it.

Pilateswife · 31/12/2020 12:16

I also read it as Violent Lark, more suited to a Graham Greene novel.

colourmylife · 31/12/2020 12:20

Thanks all!
For those saying they read it as Violent Lark, is that not the case for any name that goes with Violet?
I’m finding it so difficult to find a middle name to go with Violet, nothing seems to fit.

KirstenBlest · 31/12/2020 12:29

Elizabeth?

GilderoyLockhart · 31/12/2020 12:43

Having a noun for the middle name when the first name is an adjective doesn't work. I would reconsider the middle name.

MrsFluffyMuff · 31/12/2020 13:03

No not really, for example Violet Jane doesn't instantly make you picture a purple woman, but Violet Rose does sound like a purple flower

Yes, that's why Violet is a risky choice. Why not choose something with nicer connotations?

The difference is that a lark is a thing. Most names aren't also nouns, so the association isn't really there.

MrsFluffyMuff · 31/12/2020 13:07

Here are more suggestions

Violet Amy
Violet Faye
Violet Georgina
Violet Lydia
Violet Bryony
Violet Esther
Violet Annie
Violet Olivia

Aubergina · 31/12/2020 13:08

Lark reminds me of the (excellent) show Life in Pieces

Palavah · 31/12/2020 13:09

Lark Violet?

I did also think Violent Lark but as PP says, hardly anyone, ever, ever, has to say their full name. Use names you like.

RedMarauder · 31/12/2020 13:11

@KirstenBlest

I saw the same.

Please don't do this. Give your child a boring middle name if you are going to use Violet.

MichelleofzeResistance · 31/12/2020 13:11

My first thought on reading it was to see Violet as an adjective followed by a noun. Its a lovely name, but may be a good idea to keep the second name to something that can't be read as a noun.
