I have a 19 month old boy called Ted, need name ideas for his sister.
The two names I like so far are
Elisabeth/Elizabeth
Maddison

Any more ideas for me? Smile

I'd go for Elsie or Libby.

Elizabeth is gorgeous (and fits well with Ted) and has more than 2 dozen nicknames/variations (so half the women in your family could be called Elizabeth on their BC and it wouldn't matter, let alone 1 cousin!). However as pretty as Elisabeth looks, I'd still stick with the much more common Elizabeth spelling - she is unlikely to get the dated Liz nickname today anyway and it will be a pain saying "Elisabeth with a S" all her life.

Oh it's such a lovely name don't shorten it on her birth certificate. She can always choose to use a nickname later but Elizabeth is wonderful.

Camdyn, nn Cami.

Thankyou everyone for the advice and suggestions. My husband seems to be changing his mind about Elizabeth!
He likes Evelyn. This used to be my favourite name but I worry its too popular now. I don't actually know any and is a popular name really that bad? I have a very popular name and it never bothered me.
So if I can't get my own way with Elizabeth, what do we think of Evelyn?

Evelyn is very pretty, but may blend into all the Eva's, Evie's and Ava's about. Evelyn is also more subject to fashions - it was also popular between the 1900's - 40's before it fell out of style (then it was revived with the other vintage/retro names of the period that had a nice sound - Florence, Iris, Beatrice, Ivy, Mabel, Ada, Nancy etc).

Whereas Elizabeth is the most timeless name for girls - as far as I know it's stayed in the top 100 names since the 1300's till the present day.

If you like Evelyn but are concerned about current popularity, what about the similar Lillian or Vivien?

We have a Ted. Sibling name options included:

Heidi
Beatrice (Bea)
Clara
Emily

Hmm, I don't love Elizabeth and particularly hate Liz but it's a classic, you can't actually go wrong with it.

Maddison is terrible!

Elspeth sounds like someone wants to be a bit more unusual than Elizabeth so they searched for something slightly more oddbod and that was the best they could think of Grin

MisiSam · 29/12/2020 12:13

Yes Elspeth is a bit like that 😂

From your list, I like Elizabeth with Margot or Sylvie/Sylvia as a potential middle name.

Rocococo · 29/12/2020 12:14

Annie

Evelyn Will be Eve.
Very frequently used in the past 10 years to the point of being dull.
