Guessing game V!

Merry twixmas! Xmas Grin

We have reached thread 5(!) of the baby names Guessing Game.

This was the (brilliant) brain child of @scotstar back in March 2018. Smile

All are welcome, rules of this game are pretty straightforward - someone describes a name. Whoever solves the clues is then in charge of describing the next name. Simple! Make the clues as fiendish or straightforward as you like. Grin

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ellmau · 10/06/2021 23:03

Yes!

Ellmau · 10/06/2021 23:05

Several little sisters is a nod to Jo March in Little Women, as is the last clue.

Not tonight Josephine - the first wife of Napoleon.

And Josephine Baker - the Paris based African American jazz singer was involved in the French Resistance.

Your turn!

finallychangedmyusername · 11/06/2021 16:00

Excellent, I got the Jo March clue and then everything fell into place. Grin

New name:

This watery Shakespearean name is so rare that it doesn't appear on the 2019 ONS baby names listing at all.

LadyGAgain · 11/06/2021 16:19

Cordelia or Marina?

finallychangedmyusername · 11/06/2021 16:53

Neither Cordelia nor Marina, sorry.

OP posts:
Ellmau · 11/06/2021 20:18

Nerissa?

finallychangedmyusername · 11/06/2021 20:19

Correct @Ellmau! Nerissa it is. Maybe that was too easy. Grin Back to you!

OP posts:
Ellmau · 11/06/2021 20:22

OK.

A stylish royal.

finallychangedmyusername · 11/06/2021 22:11

Zara?

OP posts:
Ellmau · 12/06/2021 10:34

Yes - obviously too easy ;)

finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2021 21:10

Here's a new one - not done previously. Hope it's a bit more cryptic than my last! 🤣

  • Not an octuplet, yet one of eight.
  • In good company with Thomas (and another/others), in more than one way.
  • Depicts Arthur on a TV programme.
  • He can provide for you in a dark hue.
OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 13/06/2021 12:28

James or Bradley? I can make James fit but stuck on the eight clue!

finallychangedmyusername · 13/06/2021 18:57

Sorry not James nor Bradley!

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 13/06/2021 18:59

The TV programme (with Arthur) was set in an earlier era to that in which it was filmed.

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 15/06/2021 20:19

In one sense he's also in good company with Richard. In the other with Edward.

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 18/06/2021 19:47

Emmet?

LadyGAgain · 18/06/2021 19:48

I hasten to add....no idea why other than he goes with Edward (Cullen) and Emmet could be I'm eight in a regional accent 😂😂😂

finallychangedmyusername · 19/06/2021 09:06

Grin sorry, it's not Emmet.

He's a household appliance.

OP posts:
Ellmau · 19/06/2021 09:36

Henry?

finallychangedmyusername · 19/06/2021 12:03

Not an octuplet, yet one of eight:

  • Kings Henry I through to Henry VIII.

In good company with Thomas (and another/others), in more than one way.

  • "Tom, Dick and Harry" - phrase reportedly created in the 17th century as there were so many Thomases, Richards and Henrys.
  • Henry is one of the main characters in the Thomas the Tank Engine series (along with Edward).

Depicts Arthur on a TV programme:

  • Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli in Happy Days.

He can provide for you in a dark hue.

  • Henry Ford, of the Ford Motor Company was reported as having said (approximately) "You can have a car in any colour you want, as long as it's black".

Household appliance:

  • Henry the Hoover
OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 19/06/2021 12:03

Well played @Ellmau! Over to you! Smile

OP posts:
Ellmau · 19/06/2021 14:35

I only got it from the hoover, and then I did also think of Thomas the Tank engine ;)

New name:

He would die for you.

Ellmau · 19/06/2021 14:43

Maybe after taking a dodgy photo.

Ellmau · 20/06/2021 16:10

A bit of a hopeless romantic.

Ellmau · 20/06/2021 16:13

(Scrap the photo clue, that's one of his relatives...)
