October??

I think the name October is beautiful but do you think it would be considered too odd, too ridiculous etc? I often wonder why April, May and June are considered ‘normal’ but other months are not regarded as names. I love October shortened to Toby as a nickname.
Thoughts?

Surely it would be Tobi?

emmathedilemma · 24/12/2020 15:26

for a boy or girl??
I'd think of it more as a girl's name but Toby is definitely for a boy. Just call them Toby!

Yennefer19 · 24/12/2020 15:27

If you like it, I think you should go for it. I think Toby is a great nn. August is starting to become a popular boys names and as you mentioned above the other months are popular so I don’t think anyone would find it too unusual.

I went to primary school in the early 80s with an Oktober (think her mum was German).

It did provoke comment the first time anyone heard it, but I think most people liked it.

LouiseTrees · 24/12/2020 15:32

October is definitely a girls name.

ivfbeenbusy · 24/12/2020 15:38

It's an odd name to give if the child is born in July 🤷‍♀️

No not really. A child born in July would have been conceived in October

Ohalrightthen · 24/12/2020 16:41

I went to school with an October, she was Tobie, and i still love it.

Sunshinedrops85 · 24/12/2020 16:50

I know of a September. Go for it OP if you love it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/12/2020 19:39

Sorry OP, it doesn't sound very nice to me - much prefer Octavia (I'm also not particularly keen on June or April either, although I like May and August - probably because they have history apart from being "month" names)

Twizbe · 24/12/2020 21:36

I went to school with an October. She was known as Occie

emilybrontescorsett · 24/12/2020 22:43

I have always liked October as a name but dh vetoed it. I do think it's much better if your child is born in October though.

EbbaDay · 24/12/2020 23:59

I recently met a little girl named October at a baby group. Such a beautiful name!

MercyBodle · 25/12/2020 04:45

I quite like it.

Bunchup · 25/12/2020 04:52

October for a boy.

Octopus for a girl.

TippledPink · 25/12/2020 04:59

Definitely would assume it's a girls name.

ConiferGate · 25/12/2020 05:05

  1. please don’t do this, you’ll subject the poor kid to a life of having to explain no it’s not when you were born it’s when your parents had sex. Would be nicer if it was eg wedding anniversary or something??

  2. it definitely sounds like a girls name

Lizadork · 26/12/2020 06:10

I know a January never shortened to Jan.

diddlediddle · 26/12/2020 10:26

I love it!

VenusClapTrap · 26/12/2020 13:47

Hmm. No.

diddlediddle · 26/12/2020 14:56

Oh wait, is it not for a girl? Ok love for a girl, definitely not for a boy
