Oh good and Interesting question. Who knows I think people are starting to get braver with names so I think we could see some out there names. However I think certain names will always be around. Also some granny chic names. Dated names will become "cool again.

DramaAlpaca · 21/12/2020 00:06

Those names OP posted are popular now, so I very much doubt they'll be still popular in ten years' time.

I think names that were used in the 40s and 50s are likely to be up there, like babyspider says. Names that we currently think of as very dated. The classics will still be around of course, they don't date, but we might see some of the less used ones coming back.

Hopefully the trend for bland, cutesy names will be long gone.

Yes I have a strong dislike for nickname names.

Victorian/pre war names are currently v popular so i think 50/60s names may see a resurgence.

Surname as first names are a thing at the moment, although polarising, they may well become usual. I suspect there will be a return to the usual, eg the Anna or Adam type or the truly unusual, in an attempt to be unique.

CrochetOrBust · 21/12/2020 00:22

I think the 40s and 50s names will start to come back.

Carol, Susan, Janet for girls
John, Peter, Edward for boys

BlueMoonGlint · 21/12/2020 02:33

Gary.

BlueMoonGlint · 21/12/2020 02:35

And I predict Jane will enter top 100.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2020 02:59

I can see some of the currently dated girls names with nice sounds could start to come back by 2030 - Sylvia, Patricia, Sandra, Linda, Angela etc.

I also think classics like Jane, Anne, Helen, Ruth, Susan, Frances, Mary and Margaret will eventually come back, as fashion starts to move back away from the more cute/sweet or frilly/princessy sounding girls names.

And the more classic of the boys names popular years ago - John, Robert, Simon, Peter, Phillip, Paul, Stephen, Richard, Hugh, Nicholas etc should be moving higher up the charts by 2030.

I actually would have to disagree with 40s/50s names coming back. I know normally names go through a 100 year cycle but if you look at trends over the last few decades I think we are much more influenced now by tv shows/films, celebrities, we also now have huge mediums for access to names that we never had before (Netflix, YouTube etc) so we’re seeing a surgence in popular American names so we could see a surgence in other countries names. Everyone is also always looking for different names.

So I think it will be difficult to predict what will be popular in ten years time, I think it will depend on popular culture at the time.

Firebird83 · 21/12/2020 10:06

I think the 20s and 30s names will come back before the 40s and 50s ones do. So names like Alma, Jean, Vera, Irene, Marion, Betty, Audrey, Joan, Freda/Frida, Peggy, Sylvia, Daphne, Eric, Dennis/Denny, Ernest, Leonard, Morris, Raymond, Ivor, Frank.
