Wanted thoughts on this name- I loved the french books in childhood.
My friend insists she sees me with a Matilda but that’s quite popular and I’d prefer a name where they are the only one in the class.
My main concern is that despite the different spelling/pronunciation it might draw references to McCann.

I’m not pregnant yet btw, I’m TTC and a bit disappointed it didn’t happen this month so I’m thinking about baby names trying to keep my own morale up that it’s going to happen.

Its my daughter's middle name. Didn't think of McCann at all. Do not care for Matilda (which makes me think of the movie even though I haven't seen it).

Where I am in Ireland Madeline (and Madeleine) are both usually pronounced MAD-uh-LEEN (not line). I believe that is the proper French pronunciation of Madeline, though Madeleine is pronounced differently. The MAD-uh-LINE pronunciation was first used as a literary rhyming device and has since become popular afaik.
