Sibling for Athena

Redcart21 · 19/12/2020 23:27

We don’t know the sex yet but looking for suggestions for both. DD1 is Athena and we want something which is in the same vein (no matchy names to mythology though as think it’s too much). DH and I have a mix of ancestory so name not limited to any cultures.
We want something fun, cool, easily pronounced. Doesn’t have to be a rare name, but we don’t want anything super popular like Emily, Ava etc.
My fave is Raphael so far, DH likes Sienna

donkey86 · 19/12/2020 23:34

Oh just realised you said easily pronounced - so maybe not!

mummyof2lou · 19/12/2020 23:35

Ophelia? Anya? I think Sienna is lovely too

headlock · 19/12/2020 23:38

Romanay for a girl and Beau for a boy

Grapefruity · 19/12/2020 23:40

Seraphina would be nice with Athena if you don't mind them both ending similarly

ChanklyBore · 19/12/2020 23:50

Sienna was 24th most popular name last year, id say that classed it as super popular, although I do like it. There were 1713 Siennas in 2019 compared to 2262 named Emily. Athena was 204th most popular with 242.

Around the 200 mark we also find Skyla, Aurelia, Pearl, India, Etta, Clementine. Zoya is there too which means you’d have the A-Z.

For boys, Raphael is 176th most popular for 2019 with 299 Raphaels. It’s cool though!
Others around there, let’s see......
Rocco, River, Tristan, Flynn, Remy, Casper, Rafferty

Rowan - for either sex

Good luck Op and by the way lovely choice of name for your dd! It might just be near me but I have noticed that there seems to have been quite a few Athena's being born over the last few years, it is a really beautiful name but look out world and primary school teachers in particular for all of those goddesses of war Smile coming your way...

Don't choose sienna if you have Athena and don't want to choose a popular name!

Redcart21 · 20/12/2020 13:50

Thanks everyone. I like Willow a lot.
@Porridgeoat how do you pronounce Rafe? Ra-fee? If so, that is a cute name I like it. I love Felix but DH veto’d it.

I know I said no popular names but I do really like Sophie too! But don’t know if it was a girl that she would feel her name wasn’t a goddess/as fun like her sisters! The problem with choosing a name like Athena I suppose

To fit with Athena I'd look outside the Top 100 but keep the multi-syllable, European feel (but not necessarily Greek or mythological).
So I think Raphael works well, or something like Xavier, Mathias, Lucian, Elias, Cassius/Caspian or Maximilian?

I'm not keen on Sienna (seems a bit modern/trendy to me compared to Athena). Maybe something like Claudia, Cecilia/Celia, Milena, Nerissa, Genevieve, Juliet?
