Hello Everyone.
I'm wondering, which name is better and how do you perceive them?

  1. Heather, nickname Hollie/Holly
  2. Marika, nickname Marie or Rika
I might choose them as first and middle names, like Heather Marika Graham or Marika Heather Graham, fake last name, but similar to real last with "Gra-". Feel free to give suggestions.

Heather is lovely, no need for a nickname.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2020 22:34

I like Heather a lot, but I can't see how you are getting Holly as a diminutive. Just call her Holly/Hollie.

Marika is pretty, and Rika is the obvious diminutive.

HeronLanyon · 18/12/2020 22:34

Heathers a beautiful name - never known it to be shortened at all and Hollie/holly seems counterintuitive - a wholly different species and totally different name ! Just call her Holly or Hollis etc.

wexfordvi3 · 18/12/2020 22:44

I won't call her Hollie/Holly then. I'll save that name for other :)

Your nick names are weird and make no sense (except rika). Neither first name appeals to me but if you like them.

IggyAce · 18/12/2020 22:48

I know a Heather who goes by Hetty.
Both names are pretty & not overused I’d probably choose Heather.

EileenGC · 18/12/2020 22:50

Heather Marika Surname sounds nice. But I agree, you can't really get Holly from Heather.

notangelinajolie · 18/12/2020 22:51

Heather is a beautiful name. Why do you need nicknames?

helpmum2003 · 18/12/2020 22:52

Heather is a nice name, it's not a personal favourite but a good name and not commonly used. I wouldn't use Holly, it's totally unrelated. I can't think of a nn for Heather tbh so don't use it if you want a nn.

Marika ditto apart from agree Rika is a good nn.

emilybrontescorsett · 18/12/2020 22:53

I agree with everyone else if you like Holly call your baby that. The same with Maria.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/12/2020 00:21

Heather is gorgeous as is Hollie. However I wouldn't connect Hollie as a nn for Heather.
Marika sounds like a mix of Marie and Erica.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/12/2020 00:22

Marika is lovely and underused in the UK - Mari, Rika or even Mai (May) would be fine nn's if you want one. As pp noted Holly is a completely separate name to Heather (and quite popular); Heather doesn't typically have a nn and while nice, feels a bit 70's/80's for me personally.

MercyBodle · 19/12/2020 03:35

Marika is my favourite, and Marika Heather is okay, but I think Marika Holly sounds better.
Heather is okay, but like others I would use Holly as a separate name not a nn for Heather.

ILoveStickers · 19/12/2020 06:22

Marika is nice. It is a nn for Marie/Maria in itself.

Oneandabean · 19/12/2020 08:53

I love heather it’s so pretty. Definitely that one

Firebird83 · 19/12/2020 11:09

Heather

Enko · 19/12/2020 12:00

Love Heather Marika is pretty too

GintyMcGinty · 19/12/2020 12:01

Heather is lovely. So is Holly but as a bane and not a nickname. And it's not a nickname for Heather. Totally different plants.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/12/2020 12:28

I'm a Heather, it's not a name that lends itself easily to nicknames. The only nickname I've ever had from it has been 'H'. I've never heard of Holly being used as a nickname for it.

YoniAndGuy · 19/12/2020 12:52

Call her Holly!

Better than either of the actual names, especially Heather which is just awful - clunky and depressing.

jollygoose · 19/12/2020 12:59

I am also a Heather - family call be Hev

itssquidstella · 19/12/2020 13:13

I'm a Heather! I occasionally get called Heth but generally speaking it's not a name that gets (or needs) shortening.

I don't really like it tbh; in my head Heather is an overweight 40 something from
Michigan (I am none of those things).

PlantPotting · 19/12/2020 13:15

I think Holly is perfect
Doesn't work as a nickname for Heather though

riotlady · 19/12/2020 13:15

I like Heather but agree that Holly is a different name, not a nickname for it

VenusClapTrap · 20/12/2020 10:15

Marika is really pretty.
