Our shortlist:

Ottilie - husband doesn't believe it's a real name 😂
Edith - other daughter also has a name that is in Downton Abbey apparently. Don't know i don't watch it but I think they're both major characters 🤷🏼‍♀️
Hazel
Rowan - husband thinks it's a boys name
Lyla / Lilah
Maeve / Maeva
Tamsin
Alexandra
Thea

Could you help us narrow it down? Also please comment any suggestions that you think we may like 😊

Love Ottilie, always have
Maeve is lovely
Thea is sweet too
Really like Alexandra but would be nn Alex and I’m not a fan of that

calimommy · 15/12/2020 15:15
  1. Edith
  2. Rowena (might suit your husband more?
  3. Alexandra (I have an Alexander and he is 5 and is still known as his full name so far. I don't actually like the name Alex but occasionally we call him Xander for short, so Xandra is an option too)
  4. Hazel
countrystumpkin · 15/12/2020 15:20

@calimommy he loves Rowena but only if pronounced like Rowenna, not Roweena

My favourite by far is Alexandra. Also don't mind Thea. Not too keen on the rest. Elizabeth? Vivienne?

EileenGC · 15/12/2020 15:49

Alexandra is gorgeous! One of my best friends is called this and if I ever have a girl this will be a strong middle name contender. So many nickname possibilities as well - Alex, Aly, Lexie...

Lyla and Hazel are the other two from your list that I really like. Congratulations on your baby girl! Smile

Maeve and Thea are lovely!

Sylvie?

Whatsyourflava · 15/12/2020 15:51

A really lovely list!

Ottilie - love this name and all its nickname options. I reckon your husband will get used to it the more he hears if
Edith - adore this name. Never seen D Abbey and not heard anyone mention the programme in years anyway. I wouldn't worry about it.
Hazel - love this name
Rowan - unisex. Too trendy sounding for my taste and too similar to fastest rising boy name RoMan. Dislike fairly inevitable nickname Row.
Lyla / Lilah - love it. And also love Delilah
Maeve / Maeva - love it
Tamsin - not to my taste , not a nice sound
Alexandra - love it, a classic
Thea - love it

Whatsyourflava · 15/12/2020 15:53

@countrystumpkin those pronunciation issues would put me off. Also - Sounds too much like rude slang "wiener" to my ears

PinGwyn · 15/12/2020 15:58

I like Hazel and Rowan.

Alexandra is fine, not to my taste though.

My suggestions would be Anna, Francesca, Bethany, Eloise, Rebecca, Harriet.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/12/2020 18:59

Ottilie - No, too trendy for me.
Edith - No, too old lady still imo.
Hazel - Nice enough, just not a favourite.
Rowan - it is unisex, but used far more often on boys so I wouldn't use it on a girl myself.
Lyla / Lilah - Lilah is the nicest spelling, pretty name.
Maeve / Maeva - Maeve is beautiful but Maeva looks made up/weird to me.
Tamsin - Nice and not very common now.
Alexandra- Very classic (but seems a different style to your other names?)
Thea - Gorgeous but popular and could have pronunciation issues.

I like Maeve best, followed by Thea. Other suggestions - Rosalind, Iris, Bryony, Imogen, Gaia.

PlantPotting · 16/12/2020 07:39

Ottilie - Well, it is a real name, ask him to google it. Lovely name
Edith - Amazing name. Classic
Hazel - Another amazing name
Rowan - My baby girl's name. So it's a girl name to me. If I'd have realised how trendy and popular it is getting and how similar it is to extremely popular trendy name Roman, I would not have picked. I hate the Row shortening but it's happening already by well-meaning people by accident.
Lyla / Lilah - Nice name
Maeve / Maeva - Amazing name
Tamsin - Not keen, too harsh.
Alexandra -Amazing name. Classic
Thea -Amazing name. Classic
Rowena I really don't like and it's even more likely to get shortened to Row with that extra syllable @countrystumpkin

Jelly4444 · 16/12/2020 07:48

Thea would be my pick! Followed by Maeve and Alexander. Ottilie is pretty too.

Rowena is a bit... something.... and she will be called Ro forevermore.

Edith and Hazel are nice but they are very plain.

Lyla / Tamsin - don't do it!!

MercyBodle · 17/12/2020 03:14

Ottilie - dislike. I just hear otter and utterly.
Edith - love, and wouldn't worry about Downton link.
Hazel - okay
Rowan - I like this, and prefer it for a girl.
Lyla / Lilah - okay, but lots of similar names around, eg Lola, Layla.
Maeve / Maeva - love Maeve and like Maeva.
Tamsin - love.
Alexandra -strong classic, like a lot
Thea - okay, but blends in a bit much for me, nice if you like gentle names.
Rowena - love, and love that pronunciation (and love Ro or Wenna for a nn).
My favourites are Edith, Maeve, Tamsin, Rowena and Alexandra. They have presence and character.

missmouse101 · 17/12/2020 04:08

Hazel and Tamsin are lovely. I dislike the rest, particularly Edith and Thea.

Sandcastles09 · 17/12/2020 04:40

Ottilie - is growing on me as a name but not sure if I’d use it
Edith- love
Hazel - ok
Rowan - really like, met a little girl called Rowan the other day and it really suited her.
Lyla / Lilah - love
Maeve / Maeva - not keen on
Tamsin - not keen on
Alexandra - not keen on
Thea - love but prefer Dorothea

whattodo2019 · 17/12/2020 05:29

Alexandra

unreliableursula · 17/12/2020 05:31

Nice list! I wonder if your DD1 is named the same as mine (a character from Downtown).

My favourites are Hazel and Tamsin. Rowan is nice but while I know it's unisex all the Rowans I've met have been boys. Thea is also nice but as pp points out quite popular - I've met two baby Theadora/known as Thea's very recently. Dorothea is lovely.

VenusClapTrap · 17/12/2020 08:35

Edith, hazel and Thea are all really beautiful.
