Hello. Finally have a name, but the initials spell out Ham.....do you think this could be a bad idea?

OP posts:

DonkeyMcFluff · 13/12/2020 23:04

I wouldn’t. Ham will lead to Pig and kids are awful bullies.

Firebird83 · 13/12/2020 23:29

Add a second middle name?

Elieza · 13/12/2020 23:47

I never use my middle name so don’t include in my initials. So if your child is the same, his initials as far as school mates and employers know, will be HM.

Sounds royal Grin

DigitalChristmas · 13/12/2020 23:50

I would strongly advise against it.a dear friend’s initials were gas and she never heard the end of it with fart jokes and such like. As a pp said, I imagine kids going to town with the pig jokes.

Oneandabean · 13/12/2020 23:57

I think there’s too many people overthinking it. How often do you use all your initials? My brothers initials spell S.A.D the only one who has ever mentioned it is me.
It would be absolutely fine and I doubt anyone would really notice

August20 · 14/12/2020 03:43

To be honest I don't think most people would know or notice.

I suppose that if the child is fat and uses their initials it could be unfortunate.

Can you add a second middle name if you're worried about it?

premmie09 · 14/12/2020 03:55

I wouldn't do it unless I was absolutely in love with the first and middle names.

Lizadork · 14/12/2020 04:16

Swap the H & A?
Or add a R after A so Harm.
Harm more street cred than Ham.
Can be your little Harmony Grin

berrygirlie · 14/12/2020 05:10

It's absolutely fine. I couldn't tell you the middle names of anyone in my class at school, even when I was there. They could be PMS, or HPV or BUM for all I know. Go for it!

Katgolde · 14/12/2020 07:44

I would avoid it.

Wanderdust · 14/12/2020 08:46

You're over thinking it! As others have said, how often do you use all three initials, kids in school are likely to never know.

StCharlotte · 14/12/2020 08:48

Yeah I'd stick a second middle name. Always looks good on a cricket scoresheet as well.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 14/12/2020 08:50

I think you're overthinking it tbh. Couldnt even tell you most peoples middle names. And a bully is a bully, they would find anything.

My closest school friend was named Ellie, normal name if you ask me. She was called smelly ellie, ellie with the belly. While I had the most unheard of name, no one really said anything.

HAM definitely has more street cred at the moment it's an acronym for Hard As a Motherfucker. But things might change in a couple decades and then it'll be unambiguously piggy.

A friend of mine at school had the initials JEW. Her dad was a vicar 😅

Incidentally, I was actually the Jewish one!

ILoveStickers · 14/12/2020 09:54

Personally I'd add another middle name. It's an easy fix, and it'll play on your mind otherwise.

MimiDaisy11 · 14/12/2020 09:57

I don't think it's a big deal. Most people don't know each others' middle names. I can't see it being an ongoing thing. Bullies need more to start bullying a child. Plus pig jokes only work if they're fat. If the child is normal weight I don't get what can really be made fun of. If you're worried about it though. Like others said, just add a second middle name.

LittleTiger007 · 14/12/2020 13:03

I had a child in my class whose initials spelled JAM. Kids do find out each other’s middle names, she did get some stick for it for a while.
I would add another middle name or just make sure she or he is strong and not phased by the comments. This particular child was very whiney and wet.

Thefaceofboe · 14/12/2020 14:10

Does anyone even use their middle name at school though? I don’t even think my friend know my middle name. I think you’ll be fine

lemonsquashie · 14/12/2020 14:12

Nobody at work knows my middle initial

dsaflausdhfiushdfakdsf · 14/12/2020 14:18

Don't do it, OP. Ready made nickname. Worse still if they're a bit overweight. The people saying 'I don't know my colleague's middle names' are somewhat misguided - I don't know my colleagues middle names either but I can tell you the middle names of my every one of my group of friends from primary school. I even vaguely remember a discussion where we talked about them. HAM will absolutely get picked up. Whether or not it's immediately dropped or becomes a 'thing' can't be guessed, but I wouldn't open the door.

grey12 · 14/12/2020 14:18

As long as you aren't of a religion which prohibits it then I think it's fine and lond of fun.

I remember thinking as a kid that I couldn't marry someone with A initial for surname because then my name would spell "sh*ts" (in a different language)

RosesAndHellebores · 14/12/2020 14:23

Possible nicknames: Percy, Porky, Babe, Peppa, .................I wouldn't. Switch the first two names and use the middle one.

LittleTiger007 · 14/12/2020 14:56

@grey12 my husbands initials do spell *hit in another language!! His parents didn’t think of that ... and yes he was teased for it

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 15/12/2020 22:14

I don't think anyone will know the middle name unless they are told specifically, so it doesn't matter.
