Stripper name?

Not my words, but playing on my mind as someone said it...

Talulah?

Also, preferred spelling? Tallulah or Talulah? Would likely mainly be Lu or Lulah as we're a family of serial name-shorteners.

I think its lovely!
But then Sapphire was on my list and everyone said it was a stripper name... which made me sad but I listened and didn't use it

Alethiometrical · 12/12/2020 20:56

Snobby, i know.

You think you're snobby, but you're thinking of "Tallulah" as a name?

SlopesOff · 12/12/2020 21:07

Tallulah Bankhead wasn't a stripper.

It is the kind of name that is more likely to be used in that kind of work these days, but I think more of a Lily Savage kind of way.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 12/12/2020 21:12

The trouble is - once you wonder if a name is a stripper name then I think the name is ruined even if we all say “no it isn’t”. (Personally I don’t think it is particularly. Diamond, Candy, Sapphire are much more in my view.)

How about Natalia - which can be Tally for short?

Thisusernameistakenagain · 12/12/2020 21:17

Nc to say I was a stripper for many years and only ever met one tallulah. It is my dog's name however.

Not met one sapphire either, not a candy or a diamond.

Did meet a natalia!

Theaspidistraiswilting · 12/12/2020 21:23

I have a Tallulah and it was a name I loved for years and have no regrets!

Ohalrightthen · 12/12/2020 21:28

I think the concept of wanting a long name for the birth certificate is a little snobby, yes!

I think @alethiometrical meant tallulah is not a name someone 'snobby'would use, in common views. A 'snobby ' name would be something far less unusual, and definitely not one associated with sex workers (although my post still stands).

Ahhhh i see, i definitely pick and choose with my snobbishness! I'd never buy a 1960s house, but I'll happily eat at McDonald's. A snob and a hypocrite, but at least vaguely self-aware.

Not a fan of the name, find it a bit frilly, but I don't see it as a stripper name. With the exception of a couple of very obvious names (Candy, Crystal etc.), I don't really feel that 'stripper names' are a thing - strippers have a pretty wide variety of names. Some might see Jade as a stripper name, but I know a Jade - very artsy, bohemian and intelligent - thought the name suited her and never once did the thought 'stripper' pop into my head. If you love the name, go for it, and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

LittleTiger007 · 13/12/2020 17:43

I love it. I had a cat called tallulah.

Metalhead · 13/12/2020 21:57

Doesn’t make me think stripper, but personally I think it’s awful, sorry!

Ohalrightthen · 13/12/2020 22:08

Too frilly?

It's interesting, because i was kinda nervous about posting this in case i got talked out of a name i love, but tbh negative feedback isnt putting me off hugely, which is useful data?

I like it! Doesnt make me think of a stripper name at all and I've never seen bugsy malone

I would spell it Tallulah

diddlediddle · 13/12/2020 22:25

What even IS a stripper name? Unless you call them something like Candy Hoohah then I think it's silly.

Tallulah is a fine name. I gather it's gaining popularity though so obviously other people agree with you!

Whatthebloodyell · 13/12/2020 22:30

I don’t think of it as a stripper name. But I do now have ‘my name is Tallulah’ in my head!

What about Lucinda to get Lu/lulu?

GlacindaTheTroll · 13/12/2020 22:32

What even IS a stripper name?

Patricia Xmas Wink

MsTSwift · 13/12/2020 22:40

Hmm. I wouldn’t it’s quite a name to carry off. One of my two teen girls would the other (quiet low key) would absolutely hate it and us. Too risky for me. Would you be comfortable being called this yourself? I wouldn’t.

popcorndiva · 13/12/2020 22:43

I think if Bugsy Malone and the 'my name is Tallulah' song

theconstantinoplegardener · 13/12/2020 22:55

I think it's a gorgeous name.

My daughter has a friend called Tallulah and I honestly don't think I've ever thought of strippers when my DD has mentioned her.

AnnaSW1 · 13/12/2020 23:06

I love it myself but it is a stripper name

Divebar · 13/12/2020 23:26

Ohhh I so wish I’d called my DD Candy Hoohah!

I think Tallulah is “ cute” - would fit in my part of Surrey ok. ( do you want cute though ?) I do think of Bugsy Malone but I’m old and it was very popular when it came out. I can’t believe younger generations are that aware of the film surely?

When I think of stripper names I think of names like Jasmine ( based on zero experience )

NameChange84 · 13/12/2020 23:36

To me Tallulah is in the same bracket as Lolita...a bit distasteful Blush It’s quite coquettish. Roxanne is another similar name.

Tula is pretty
Delilah has a similar feel and although the biblical character was a bit of a one, most people don’t associate the name with her anymore.
Luella is frilly but similar.
Natalia is gorgeous.
Talia or Thalia is nice.

(Whispers) (What’s wrong with 60s houses? And what decade do you prefer?)

Ohalrightthen · 14/12/2020 10:52

(Whispering back) (I just find them utterly souless and boxy, I'd always opt for something older with more charm and character)

VenusClapTrap · 14/12/2020 18:22

I don’t associate it with strippers, but I don’t like it. It’s too frilly and a bit silly for me. I wouldn’t want to be called Tallulah myself; I’d find it a bit embarrassing. I can imagine introducing myself and being mocked - ooooh, this is Talloooooolah! with an eye roll.
