Stripper name?

Not my words, but playing on my mind as someone said it...

Talulah?

Also, preferred spelling? Tallulah or Talulah? Would likely mainly be Lu or Lulah as we're a family of serial name-shorteners.

FippertyGibbett · 12/12/2020 19:56

I like Lula or Lulah as a name.

Ohalrightthen · 12/12/2020 19:58

@FippertyGibbett me too, but I'm a big fan of proper names on a birth certificate. Snobby, i know. My DD has a "long" name and then the name we use, i want to follow the same pattern for baby 2.

It's always going to be a name to which some people assign negative connotations (however unfairly, a name is just what your parents chose).

CantStopEatingPie · 12/12/2020 19:59

I don't think of Strippers. Stripper Names to me are Candy, Diamond, Peaches etc.

I do think of Bugsy Malone.
I also think of the clothing designer Rachel Roy who has a daughter named Tallulah. Oh! And Bruce Willis and Demi Moores daughter.

Chailatte20 · 12/12/2020 20:00

Yes to answer your question and I wouldn't choose that particular name for that reason

whiteroseredrose · 12/12/2020 20:00

In my head it is a bit. Years ago my DM worked in a school in the middle of a red light district. The phone box nearby was full of cards with names like Tallula, Lola, Ruby, Jade and Amber. So they will always be prostitute names to me.

lockedownloretta · 12/12/2020 20:01

Stripper definitely

Grooticle · 12/12/2020 20:02

Yeah to me it’s sort of a showgirl/stripper name, entirely because of Jodie foster in bugsy malone.

My first thought on meeting a talulah would be to think of the song.

But I doubt that would be a popular association among children now, and I doubt I’d keep thinking it after the first time I met your daughter.

So I get what whoever you spoke to means, but not sure 🤔 it’s a big issue.

StrawScarecrow · 12/12/2020 20:03

Always makes me think of Talullah Does The Hula In Hawaiii. Poor girl.

Nice enough name though.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/12/2020 20:03

I don't think of it as a stripper name. Maybe a siren rather than a stripper?

CantStopEatingPie · 12/12/2020 20:04

Tula?

SionnachRua · 12/12/2020 20:04

Yep, does give me stripper vibes. I also feel it's a bit jolly hockey sticks.

Ohalrightthen · 12/12/2020 20:04

See, to me it's just baby Jody Foster! Which is a definite plus. But evidently not. Sad times for baby lulah.

I think its a lovely name. I like it shortened to Tali too

AverageContents · 12/12/2020 20:05

Awful name. Yes, I think low-rent showgirl

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/12/2020 20:06

Yep, does give me stripper vibes. I also feel it's a bit jolly hockey sticks.

Eh?! Surely one or the other?

Pipandmum · 12/12/2020 20:06

There's a Tallulah in my daughters class. Never thought of a stripper.

Sexnotgender · 12/12/2020 20:07

I can only think of this scene in Cool Runnings.

Stripper name?
SugarCanes · 12/12/2020 20:07

It's unusual but I don't think 'stripper'

SionnachRua · 12/12/2020 20:13

Not necessarily - names can have more than one association surely? Take Diana as an example. Princess of Wales and also Wonder Woman.
TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/12/2020 20:17

I never knew Wonderwoman was called Diana!

FPS123 · 12/12/2020 20:32

I don’t buy into ‘stripper names’. Surely there are loads of strippers with top 20 names.

I do think about how names come across professionally though. Would you trust a solicitor called Talulah? I don’t see why not but some might not take her as seriously as, say Sarah.

SionnachRua · 12/12/2020 20:34

@TheYearOfSmallThings

I never knew Wonderwoman was called Diana!
If you're looking for something to watch the movie is decent Smile
TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/12/2020 20:38

I might just do - I used to love the TV show.

AuntieStella · 12/12/2020 20:52

Tallulla is actually an Irish saints name, and I think it is lovely
