Middle name - which one?

Baby boy due early next year, we've decided on a first name but can't decide on the middle.

Our two choices are:

Flynn Asher
Flynn Alexander

Which do you prefer? Our surname is 2 syllables.

Asher is my choice, I like that its more unusual and not 'filler' and that it has a lovely meaning (Happy/Blessed), which I love as we've had a difficult journey to parenthood.
Alexander is my husband's choice, Asher is too out there for him and I must admit it flows better. However it just feels a bit expected/unexciting to me.

We've gone with an A initial as a its a bit of a family tradition but open to other middle name suggestions (please no first name suggestions its took us too long to decide on this one!)

Thanks!

Flynn Alexander.
Flynn has got me singing "Flynn full of Asher on the 45"Grin

LottieDot · 12/12/2020 11:01

@Awwlookatmybabyspider I'd never realised that before haha!! As much as I love the song it may have put me off Flynn Asher 😭 I just wish I could get over how much I love the meaning.

Sorry op I much prefer Alexander.

MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 11:09

Much prefer Alexander.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 12/12/2020 11:11

Mm Flynn Asher could easily become Flasher in the wrong hands...

snookercue · 12/12/2020 11:15

I prefer Asher as a name but Flynn Alexander sounds better. That said, you never really use a middle name anyway so I would probably use Asher.

LottieDot · 12/12/2020 11:31

Okay never thought of that either @Santaisironingwrappingpaper another mark against Asher!

I might admit defeat to husband on this one unless I can find another name I love more with a nice meaning!

How about using both?

Flynn Asher Alexander
Flynn Alexander Asher

LockdownLove · 12/12/2020 11:34

I love them both and Flynn is fab too.

Monkeytapper · 12/12/2020 11:34

How about ‘Asa’ pronounced ‘Ay-Sha’

Pandabuzz · 12/12/2020 11:58

Flynn is a lovely name!
I think Alexander would flow better. Some other ideas: Arthur, Atticus, Alfred, Archer, Anthony?
I still think Flynn Alexander sounds best.

LottieDot · 12/12/2020 12:24

@LockdownLove thanks for the positive feedback its really appreciated! DH has 2 middle names and hates it so I think we're going to stick with one.

@Monkeytapper I think that's too out there for DH

@Pandabuzz thank you! I love Atticus but don't think DH will be on board, like you I still think Alexander flows best. I also have a soft spot for August but DH wouldn't go for that either!

Definitely Alexander 👍

JemimaTiggywinkle · 12/12/2020 13:22

Really like Flynn Alexander.
Have you checked the initials don’t spell anything? (Hope your surname doesn’t start with G).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/12/2020 14:11

Or a T

Spied · 12/12/2020 14:14

Alexander

Cressie2 · 12/12/2020 16:44

Alexander

elfran · 12/12/2020 16:53

Another vote for Alexander - I think with a one-syllable first name a longer middle just flows better, and I find the repeat N in the middle pairs really nicely with Flynn.

Chilldonaldchill · 12/12/2020 17:25

Flynn Alexander.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 12/12/2020 17:26

Alexander

Wolfiefan · 12/12/2020 17:28

Or a B. Do check initials!

LottieDot · 12/12/2020 18:46

Luckily we have one of the few initials that works (H) 🤣 looks like Alexander is the clear winner
