Celina

DP and I both love the name Celina. He prefers it spelt with a C rather than S.
I don’t know of any and I love the idea of Cece for short if that’s a relevant nickname?

It goes very well with DPs surname, which is very common and makes picking a name a bit harder as chances are there’ll be someone with the same forename and surname if we pick something that’s currently popular.

What do you think?

I think it's beautiful! And definitely underused x

hellojim · 10/12/2020 20:11

I prefer Celine

RuthW · 10/12/2020 20:12

Nice name

NannyR · 10/12/2020 20:13

I've never seen it spelt like that but I really like it, it looks prettier than Selina. Celia is a nice similar name too.

WhySoSensitive · 10/12/2020 20:13

It’s on our shortlist, also with C!

Whatthedoodle · 10/12/2020 20:16

Thank you! I love the nickname Cece (DP has said no to Cecelia due to its increase in popularity) so Celina is a good compromise for us so we can use Cece but her full title would be Celina. Hoping that seems ok anyway as I know Cece is shortened for Cecelia but I suppose a lot of nicknames are derived for more than one name!

I have an 8 yr old Selina. I love the name. I like it spelt both ways.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/12/2020 20:50

While I love Selina (or Selena - it changes as to which is the more popular in the UK, Selene was the original after the Greek Goddess), the Celina spelling is pretty rare - so I think she will often have it misspelt, which could be annoying. Celine is more well used/known though.

But if you want to use Cece I'd still stick with the lovely, classical Cecilia personally - it's increase in popularity is fairly slight in the overall scheme (still only 92 girls last year, the less traditional Cecelia spelling even fewer at 37 girls). It's certainly not going to break into the top 100 anytime soon, if ever!

I really like Celina. If you like the name cece/cici you could have the names:
Celia
Celeste
Sienna
Cicely
Ciara

Whatthedoodle · 10/12/2020 21:03

@IamnotwhouthinkIam I know someone with a daughter called Cecelia, she gets her full title and doesn’t like nicknames (all her children have long names that she personally doesn’t like shortened) so while Cece would be ok for me to use, Cecelia definitely wouldn’t! It’s a beautiful name though.

What about Cecily?

Inkpaperstars · 11/12/2020 04:10

Acacia can also be shorted to Cia or CeCe

CodenameVillanelle · 12/12/2020 21:04

I have a friend called Celina who is Dutch. I prefer it to Selina but Selena is nice.

Ikeameatballs · 12/12/2020 21:08

I really like it.

Ellmau · 12/12/2020 21:17

Very nice.

MulledGin · 12/12/2020 22:29

Oooh lovely!
I'd probably go for the C version.

NameChange84 · 12/12/2020 22:31

I love this spelling! It’s much nicer. I do like Selena too but prefer Celina to with an S.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 12/12/2020 22:32

Prefer Estelle or Celeste...

CloudsPassDaily · 12/12/2020 23:34

Beautiful. I like it a lot. Prefer Celina to Selena.

VenusClapTrap · 13/12/2020 15:01

I prefer Celine. Or Selina. Celina looks like an odd hybrid to me.
