Is Dorothy read for a comeback?

Just that really. Love the nicknames Dot, Dolly and Dorry, and love the meaning. It was my grandmother's name. Would pair it with a more modern, slightly quirkier middle name (I saw Dorothy Juniper suggested on here which I liked!). Thoughts? Is it cool and vintage or dusty and dull?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My other children have uncommon, slightly quirky but not unheard of biblical names, if it is relevant.

Love it! Dorothea is also beautiful

Dorothy Juniper is great Smile

Yes, I think so. Vintage and cool side now.

This channel 4 t.v. show "Escape to the Chateau" www.channel4.com/programmes/escape-to-the-chateau with a creative family in a beautiful house they are renovating in France with the vintage loving mum, Angel/Angela, they have a little girl called Dorothy and I find it so cute, and yes, vintage cool, and it could be a classic.

I don't know if this website has the correct stats, but anyway,
"Overall UK ranking: 246 out of 5666
206 recorded births last year"
There's also a line graph on there that shows it has been climbing back up over recent years.

I like it a lot, love even.

pilates · 07/12/2020 06:42

No it’s frumpy.
I would use it for a middle name as I like to honour family members.

EachandEveryone · 07/12/2020 06:49

I love it but it’s been coming back for afew years now like Peggy. Dottie is gorgeous.

Matilda03 · 07/12/2020 06:54

I know a baby Dorothy and I think of it in a similar way to Florence, Mabel and Edith. I love it and it's nicknames. It would be on my list if I was to have another.

Whatsyourflava · 07/12/2020 07:39

Love it

Magicbabywaves · 07/12/2020 07:42

I know an 8 year old Dorothy and have met two under 3. (One Dot, one Dotty). I like it. I also like Dorothea.

Letseatgrandma · 07/12/2020 07:43

There are three girls called Dorothy at my school. All known as Dotty!

I love it-it’s definitely coming back into fashion.

dangerrabbit · 07/12/2020 07:44

Yes, it's a great name

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/12/2020 07:45

I like it, and Dorothea......though I'm little biased!

linerforlife · 07/12/2020 07:46

Yes I love it! I had a baby this summer as it was my second choice!

WutheredOut · 07/12/2020 07:50

I think Dorothy Juniper is fantastic!

RuthW · 07/12/2020 08:54

I thought it was already back. I've heard of a few in the last couple of years.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/12/2020 12:12

It's already comeback, it's currently at 187 and rapidly rising - I expect it will break into the Top 100 in a few years time at this rate. It's just not a name I'm fond of personally, I find it a bit frumpy sounding - I'd prefer a more classic name with a vintage nn -so Elizabeth (Betty), Catherine (Kitty), Sarah (Sally), Helena (Nell) etc.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/12/2020 12:19

I know four baby Dorothys! 2 are Dotty, 1 is Dorothy and the other is Dory

It’s done the equivalent of Noah has in other areas

zigaziga · 07/12/2020 13:17

It’s definitely rising pretty fast (from ONS data) names.darkgreener.com/#dorothy

I’ve met one at a baby group.

VenusClapTrap · 07/12/2020 13:32

There are two in dd’s class. Year 6; so I’d say it’s been back a while.

Firebird83 · 07/12/2020 17:05

It’s definitely already making a comeback.

bridgetreilly · 07/12/2020 17:11

Dorothy Juniper is lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2020 22:32

Definitely cool and vintage. Love it.

VanityWitch · 07/12/2020 22:36

I know a little Dorothy. I like it!

Antonin · 08/12/2020 15:08

Only Dorothy I’ve known died last year at about 101 or 102 so due a come back and in fact if you read MN it has been making a come back for several years.
I dislike the nn Dotty because I wouldn’t want to be known as dotty ie as scattered brained, eccentric, not with it.

YoniAndGuy · 08/12/2020 15:33

Dorothy's already back! But nice and rare. Go for it.
