Could be either, although I would expect it to be a shortening of Francesca for a girl rather than their full name.

MimiDaisy11 · 04/12/2020 09:23

I think it works for both. I really wanted a girl called Frankie as I think it's cute but partner doesn't like it. Though like the above posters said I'd see Frankie as a nickname for Francesca for a girl.

Mrsjayy · 04/12/2020 09:26

Sorry OP I think it's a little bit tacky for a girl.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/12/2020 14:08

I think as a given name it's too cutesy and a bit tacky, sorry OP. Makes a fun nn for Francesca/Frances or Frank/Franklin/Francis though (it's fairly unisex and I wouldn't be surprised to hear it on either sex as a nn.)

Twizbe · 04/12/2020 15:58

The only Frankie I know is a woman (my mum) she is Frances properly.

formerbabe · 04/12/2020 16:02

I prefer it for a boy. It's quite sweet...I'd use it as a nn for Francesca

pinkpinecone · 04/12/2020 16:12

A great girl's name

Rosesaresweet · 06/12/2020 11:52

Frankie is cute for a girl. Nickname for Frances or Francesca.

Frank is better for a boy!
