Azariah (Hebrew: עֲזַרְיָה‎ 'Ǎzaryāh, "Yah has helped") is the name of several people in the Hebrew Bible.

Thoughts on using Azariah? Does Azariah (Uzziah) King of Judah ruin it for you?

Dingo baby ruins it for me, but I guess most people won't remember that by now.

KindnessCrusader · 04/12/2020 09:10

I think it's lovely. It's nice to see something a bit different.

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/12/2020 09:10

Just about to say the same thing Boobs Grin

OhShutIt · 04/12/2020 09:11

I didn't even think of that until I read your comment. Definitely a sad association.

I know one! Great name

didot · 04/12/2020 09:19

Beautiful sounding name. Would you use it for a boy or a girl?

M0MS · 04/12/2020 09:20

@didot Thank you. It's for a boy.

I know 3 lovely Azariahs all primary school aged, no one has ever mentioned dingo baby. I don’t even know what that is...

ThatDamnScientist · 04/12/2020 09:24

Beautiful and unusual name.

NannyR · 04/12/2020 09:31

I thought of the Australian baby first, but I think her name was spelt Azaria and pronounced with the emphasis on the middle zaaa sound. If it was for a boy and spelled with -iah at the end I would presume it was pronounced with the emphasis on the -riah sound at the end, like Hezekiah, Zechariah, which makes it sound more masculine.
I quite like it.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 04/12/2020 09:33

Nope. Dingo baby.

M0MS · 04/12/2020 09:56

Our other options are Seth or Ezra.

It's a lovely name. Any name at all will be like a name something bad happened to somewhere. I know a super seven yo Azariah

IRunLikeJoeBiden · 04/12/2020 10:22

I like all three. Where I live all three would be unusual, with Azariah being the least commonly found.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/12/2020 13:55

I think Seth or Ezra would be safer options - I like both, although Seth is probably the more classic option (as Ezra is really increasing in popularity).

Azariah is a more complex, less commonly heard name - so you'll likely get more misspelling, and people not being sure if it's a boy or girls name.

You could also consider Asa? - very similar to Ezra but not as popular.

VenusClapTrap · 04/12/2020 16:49

It’s a pretty name and quite unusual. Bit on the long and frilly side though.

Brighterthansunflowers · 04/12/2020 17:41

I think it’s lovely

Dingo baby was a girl Ah-Zaar-ia

This is a boys name Az-ah-rye-ah. I like it.
