I like James. I also like Jamie as a nn. Isaac sounds too close to I suck when I hear it, which is not ideal...

Oh, yes! James Baldwin is a famous author and I love his books, so I’m surprised I missed that 😂

If you’re alright with having a son who shares a name with this literary great, then go for it! Otherwise, I would find some options personally since I’m not a fan of Isaac.

Isaac, I think sounds nicer with your surname (and is just a name I prefer)

I'm always turned off of the name James because all the James's I knew growing up went by their surnames, probably because there were so many of them.

James (but I'm biased as I have a James)

James sounds more classic and has more nn choices (if he wants one) so would be my choice (it's also steadily falling in popularity so there are a lot fewer about than there used to be).
