Would love opinions on these,
and any other suggestions. We will probably use a mixture of full name and shortening. Thanks

Alexander
Andrew
Benjamin
Edward
Frederick
George
James
Jonathan
Joseph
William

Alexander - very popular. I don' like Xander
Andrew - fine
Benjamin - fine
Edward - Ed/Eddie is ok but not Ned or Teddy
Frederick - not keen
George - fine, a bit popular
James - great, probably my favourite. Not keen on Jim
Jonathan - great but I prefer John/Johnny
Joseph - fine
William - fine but not a favourite

MikeUniformMike · 30/11/2020 14:13

I very much like Alec as opposed to Alex as a short form of Alexander

Biggleton · 30/11/2020 14:56

Thank you

They are all very traditional names - mostly classics.

You don’t get many young Jonathans, but I don’t love it - prefer John.

Benjamin and Frederick are my favourites.

The Prince Andrew debacle would put me off Andrew personally.

Biggleton · 30/11/2020 15:48

@JemimaTiggywinkle, thanks, which would you think aren’t classics? Andrew and Jonathan?

I like your list, my favourites are Alexander, Edward, James and William.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2020 15:56

Alexander. Love, timeless strong but gentle at the same time. Suits all ages and classes. .
Andrew. Love but very dated if that bothers you. Mind you dated can also be refreshing.
Benjamin. Im not too keen, but I do quite like Ben
Edward. Again I'm.not too keen. Ted and Ned are okay, thought.
Frederick. Once again I only like the abbreviations.
George. Good name. I don't like it, though.
James. See Alexander.

Jonathan. Awful sorry and Johnny is even worse..John is okay through.
Joseph. Nice name, but even if I was blessed with 10 boys it wouldn't factor anywhere in my short list.

William see Joseph.

Other names you might like.
Francis.
Thomas
Michael
Antony
Patrick
Peter
Nicholas.
Daniel

JemimaTiggywinkle · 30/11/2020 15:58

@Biggleton yes, I think Andrew and Jonathan are less “timeless” than the others.

TrixieHeliotrope · 30/11/2020 16:23

Alexander - quite nice
Andrew - alright
Benjamin - lovely
Edward - meh
Frederick - lovely
George - meh
James - depends on if you're naming him after famous Youtuber James Marriot
Jonathan - lovely
Joseph - meh
William - alright
I'd recommend Bartholomew

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/11/2020 19:06

They are all classics so you can't really go wrong with any of them, but...

Not Keen:
Andrew - hate nn Andy, and feels slightly dated
Jonathan - spelling issues, prefer the more classic John
George - never liked the sound of it personally

Love (hard to chose a fave!):
Alexander- lovely sound and so many nn choices, it gives him lots of options (I like Xan or Lex myself)
James - the most classic sounding boys name out there, but it's on a downward curve of popularity so now no longer overused
William - so many great namesakes and a lovely meaning
Edward - elegant, lots of nn choice again (I like Bear or Iolo)

I like Frederick, Joseph and Benjamin as well but just not as much as these 4.

Whatsyourflava · 30/11/2020 20:10

Lovely list of names

Love Benjamin and James

emilybrontescorsett · 30/11/2020 21:36

I like Joseph. Timeless and classic.

Catwoman1985 · 30/11/2020 21:36

Some great names here!

Alexander - like
Andrew - don't like and don't think I'd use with the whole Prince Andrew thing
Benjamin - ok
Edward - nice. Love Teddy as a nickname.
Frederick - hmm can't make my mind up
George - solid. Like.
James - don't like, don't know why
Jonathan - cute!
Joseph - solid
William - love

pilates · 30/11/2020 21:43

What a great bunch of name. The only one I’m not keen on is Andrew.
George is my favourite.

Awrite · 30/11/2020 21:50

Great names op.

I love:
Alexander
Andrew

Would suggest:
Benedict over Benjamin
John over Jonathan

Not keen on George.

Like a pp, I love Michael and Patrick as well.

Happy choosing.
