Alby, Archie and Ernie sound like cute names for hamsters. I'm really not a fan of such twee nicknames for a boy/teen/man.

YakkityYakYakYak · 30/11/2020 21:22

Archie is the only one I like to be honest, but I think Archie is a bit overdone now

Catwoman1985 · 30/11/2020 21:30

I don't particularly like any of them, though I know they are very popular names at the moment. Sorry.

pilates · 30/11/2020 21:37

I only like Albert, nn Albie

BigusBumus · 30/11/2020 21:39

They are all hideous.

BackforGood · 30/11/2020 22:16

If I had to use any of them, I'd give the child the full name, so there were options for them as they go through life.

Albert, Earnest and Archibald are from an era that has gone full circle to now be fashionable again, though I'm not particularly keen.

I think people have turned to Albie because all the other boys’ names ending in an ‘ee’ sound were suddenly everywhere (Alfie, Charlie, Ronnie, Reggie, Archie etc). Unfortunately, little Albies are now ten a penny too. Ernie hasn’t yet reached that level of popularity, but will probably be next. I’ve got to say, I wouldn’t want to be a grown man named Ernie or Alby. They’re not very sexy, are they? Cute for a three year old perhaps, but I don’t know many forty year old men who’d want to be considered cute.

Archie I admit I quite like, as I think it escapes the ‘cute’ category. I imagine an adult Archie as extremely wealthy and owning huge tracts of land. Striding about his acres in his plus fours. If he didn’t, I think I’d be pretty disappointed.

Arnie? Arnold is a strong sounding name. Or Norman?

CosyQueen · 01/12/2020 10:00

Love Ernie, not keen on the other two.

SaffieSoph · 01/12/2020 19:47

Love Ernie!

PigsInHeaven · 01/12/2020 20:37

Ernie for me is either a Muppet on Sesame Street or a Benny Hill novelty song. Albie is the best of the three, but I’m not keen.
