Would appreciate thoughts on our favourite boys names please:

Front runners:
Dylan
Lewis

Also like:
Charlie (but don't like overly popular- i.e. top 20 names so this counts that out?)
Fraser
Caspar
Cameron

Thanks! x

Am thinking of Viola and Sebastian from Twelfth Night.

elpth · 27/11/2020 23:39

The talented and amazing Tim Minchin's kids are called Caspar and Violet. Just saying Grin

For some reason Sebastian came into my head immediately!

Lewis is considered a naughty boy name I believe, but I like it. I considered it for DS.

We also considered Sebastian and these:

Fergus
Rory
Angus
Hamish
Gregor

@UmmH

Am thinking of Viola and Sebastian from Twelfth Night.
Ah that might be why!!!

Had not read the responses when I gave mine.

Eleanora8 · 28/11/2020 00:08

I really like Dylan with Violet.

MercyBodle · 28/11/2020 01:58

From your list I like:
Fraser
Caspar
Charlie
Lewis

40weekswithno2 · 28/11/2020 08:52

Fraser is the nicest I think.

The reason Scottish, Irish & welsh names are often seen as 'naughty boy/girl' names in England is pure xenophobia I'm sorry to say.

Pigletpoglet · 28/11/2020 08:57

I also like Huw. Goes beautifully with Violet.

Scarby9 · 28/11/2020 09:00

Weirdly, my first thought on reading your title was Angus - Violet must give off Scottish vibes for some reason.
All your choices work well and are lovely names.

ButterMeUpScotty · 28/11/2020 09:12

I only like Lewis, but Oliver sounds lovely with Violet if you’re expanding the list.

Chilldonaldchill · 28/11/2020 09:45

I perceive Dylan and Lewis as very popular, particularly when you consider all the Dillons, Dolan's etc and all the Louis (some of whom pronounce it like Lewis).

Violet and....
Dylan - boring and I don't really like it
Lewis - I know lots and I try to like it but I just don't. I love Louis though (pronounced the French/normal way) and I think that would sound great with Violet
Charlie (but don't like overly popular- i.e. top 20 names so this counts that out?) - the only ones I know are teenagers but maybe it's still popular? I quite like it though I prefer Charles
Fraser - I think this is stunning and goes really well with Violet. My only caveat would be that the one I know (he's an adult) gets very annoyed when people pronounce it Frasier and apparently lots do
Caspar - love love love
Cameron - really like. Only David Cameron puts me off but that's probably not a reasonable response

Dylan

Agree.

Although for some reason Fergus, Patrick and Rory people tend to see as 'posh'.

DollyParton2 · 30/11/2020 08:42

Thanks all so much. Seems Fraser is the most liked?
Those saying Lewis is really popular, I’ve come across no boys in DDs nursery or school and it was only 99 last year, so I wouldn’t count out for this reason.
Lewis seems really marmite though. It’s still probably my favourite eek! I think it’s between Lewis, Fraser & Dylan.

I love Caspar but DH not so keen. On here in past it’s got some negative comments?

Love Sebastian but 2 close friends have boys called this so couldn’t.
