Help find a boys name (last of our friends!)

...and both have jobs where we deal with a lot of people and children. Some negative associations with names. Our friends have all had children recently so the following names are ruled out: Finley, Gabriel, Thomas, Sebastian, Theodore, Oscar, Henry, Harry, Otis, Dylan, Felix, Jesse. We have already ruled out George, Noah, Arthur, Alfie, Freddie, Archie and Teddy. Not keen on anything to twee sounding.

The only names on my mind at the moment are Robin and Louis. I did like Max but concerned about popularity.

Could you lend a hand with some suggestions please? Nothing too off the wall but I just need some new ideas that aren't either already used, negatively associated with or too popular. Yep sounds easy doesn't it 🤣🤣

Thanks in advance.

Some solid “normal” names aren’t that common anymore - John, Jack, James, Thomas, Stuart/Stewart, Alexander.

Might be your style but if you’re avoiding twee and trendy...

I wouldn't worry too much about popularity for classic names like Max (which is nice)- as long as the names haven't recently shot up in popularity they are unlikely to date, and unless they have stayed in the top 10 for a long time, they shouldn't sound too overused. Max has been fairly steady in use, but is now gradually falling out of the top 30, as have similar classics like Samuel and Adam.

You have to consider nicknames and variations too - Louis is actually more popular statistically than Max (when you consider Louie is also in the top 100, and is increasing in popularity). I love Robin as a nn for the classic Robert, but I wouldn't use it on it's own personally as it's on a steady upward curve.

I like the suggestions of Matthew, Peter, Nathaniel, Christopher, Daniel, Charles and David. And would add Mark, John, Michael and Hugh to names that are not overused anymore but not too "off the wall".

I considered Robin for DC2 was in the list, but I knew of someone years ago called Robin and it's tricky as they were quite a character. As it goes a close friend had a baby a month before and called her Robyn. DC2 turned out to be a girl when she was born, so didn't need a boys name.

Midbreakdown · 25/11/2020 23:06

@Ingridla just my opinion but Teddy is twee to me. Too childish for a grown man. Sorry to any Teddy mums.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I do like the suggestion of the Ed's. Seems like Edward has a lot of nicknames too. I wonder how popular it is?!

Miles is a good name. DH isn't keen though. I also like Saul but he doesn't
