I can’t find a boys name I like!

I love Max but it has been used by a close relative of DHs. We can’t seem to agree on anything else. Anyone have any inspiration for me? I was thinking something short and simple as we have a long complicated surname. DH hates all the ‘plain’ names that I love like Ben, Sam and Tom. He likes names that I hate including Alfie and Dexter.

*and ANNOUNCED THAT he’d be called James, I realise my post makes it sound like they found out his name at the scan which I don’t think the technology exists for yet Blush

@Trousersareoverrated

Would none of you really be a bit surprised if your sibling called their child by the same name as yours less than a year after their birth? I would have thought it is a no no!
Yes I think it would be very weird.
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/11/2020 16:25

I’d think it weird OP.

Marcus
Zac

Yes we discounted names of siblings' children.

IckleBear · 25/11/2020 19:15

Silas?

borntohula · 25/11/2020 19:18

I feel like 'Zac' is similar.

Trousersareoverrated · 25/11/2020 19:29

Thanks all. I did like Zach too but it is the name of a very close friend's child so its off the list. I thought of Euan today and DH has OK-ed it so thats a strong contender.

I wouldn't want to pick the same name as my brother there's loads of names in the world. My OHs sister has a boy called Max which is my fav name too but we're picking a different one

My suggestions are:
Stanley
Toby
Rex
Eric
Troy
Eli
Noah

Milicentbystander72 John, Peter and David might not be super common anymore (mainly because every other guy in his 40s+ is called them) but that doesn’t make them non- boring. They are incredibly plain and dull. I wish some people on here would realise when people say they DON’T want plain names instead more unusual , it most certainly does NOT mean names like:
John, David, Peter, Christopher!!!

Yennefer19 · 25/11/2020 20:33

@AliasGrape god that would make naming your child so much easier 😂😂.

That's fair enough OP. If there was a name I had been set on from the off I wouldn't have let someone else have it exclusively just because I had had miscarriages so wasn't first to it. If you don't feel that set on a name then I agree it is strange not to choose a different name.

I like Dorian.

Max is definitely out as it is the name of a cousin who he is likely to see at least monthly growing up.

Well it was not a no no in our family - not at all. We all thought it was quite sweet. The sibling parents were not the least bothered about it. We sometimes call them Big X and Little X and they think it is a great joke. And they love each other dearly.

ladycecilia · 26/11/2020 15:24

You must think of the unlikely names. I am often slandered for my choices of Monty and Prudence for my wondrous offspring. Don't be afraid of the unknown. Oblivion is inevitable.

I would definitely not give my baby the same name as my nephew/niece.
And I would be very surprised (and pissed off) if one of my siblings named their child the same as my child.

I know names are repeated in families a lot, but generally in different generations.
