George, Harry or Jack?

Of the 3, George is my least favourite, sorry OP! Even though it's very classic, I've personally never really liked the sound of it (and I think of the Georgy - Porgy rhyme). Harry is okay (although I prefer as nn for Henry), and I quite like Jack (alone or as a nn for John).

I really like the others you mentioned - James, Adam, and Max (Maximilian?) are lovely.

Pudding01 · 23/11/2020 20:08

@Quercus3 and you! Wonder if we will end up with the same Grin

@NameChange30, didn't really want a name in the top 10, but I suppose it will be a case of which matters more if/when the time comes. But it was you Max suggestion that put it back on the table.

@Iamnotwhouthinkiam no need to apologise, I'm the one asking for opinions Smile Interesting to see a positive reaction to Jack over George and Harry.

Not sure on the Maximillian or Maximus...

Maxim is my favourite but some people dislike the association with the magazine. There's also Maxwell which I dislike for some reason. Maximus seems a bit silly, too Roman emperor. So that leaves Maximilian which is a mouthful Grin

NameChange30 · 23/11/2020 20:12

(You could just use Max by itself, of course)

Pudding01 · 23/11/2020 20:15

Yeah I do prefer just Max! It's the longer versions that make it not work for my style Grin

Yes, I love Maxim as a longer version best too - but everyone mentions the magazine rather than "Rebecca" . I agree the OP could use Max on it's own though, as like Jack it doesn't sound too cute/nicknamey.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 23/11/2020 21:15

Erin and Oscar?

Pudding01 · 23/11/2020 21:21

@WouldstrokeTomHardy I think we all just need to take a moment to appreciate your name! 😂😍

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 23/11/2020 21:22

George
John (nn Jack)
Henry (nn Harry)
I'd go:
John
George
Henry

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 23/11/2020 21:27

Thanks OP 😂

InvisibleToEveryone · 23/11/2020 21:39

I know a set if twins called Zach and Erin since birth, so that runs quite well to my ear.

Pudding01 · 23/11/2020 21:39

@RosesAndHellebores Thank you, but I don't like John and XH sister has a Henry, so too close in the family.

OP posts:
Pudding01 · 23/11/2020 21:53

@InvisibleToEveryone love how the names work for the twins. I will suggest it to DP

FYI to everyone else, I have had a brief conversation with DP about our surname scenario. He said he heard how much it means to me to have the siblings linked, so will be open minded for a proper conversation. Cant see him (and I wouldn't want him to) taking my XH's name, but the suggestions of two surnames or second middle name isn't being dismissed Smile Luckily for me and my DD, he loves her as if she were his own

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 23/11/2020 21:54

George it is then Smile

NameChange30 · 23/11/2020 21:58

Aw he sounds a good'un Smile

EggyPegg · 23/11/2020 22:03

@Pudding01

I've always liked George. He did like it until he heard Jack and now that's his favourite.

We both think Harry is OK. Surname starts with H, so could either look cool or silly!

DD is Erin, if that helps people decide...

DH was adamant that he wanted Jack. I was equally adamant that I did not. I wanted Isaac. Eventually I said to him that I was never, ever going to agree to Jack, so he needed to take it off the table. He agreed to, but said the same about Isaac. It pained me to let it go, but it was the right thing to do.

When I suggested the next name on my list, he made a flippant comment (a reference to a children's cartoon). I then paired that name with the middle name we'd already agreed on (incidentally, George) and he realised that it went really well.

Also, DH liked Harry for DS2 but our surname is also an H and I'm not an alliteration fan. But some people like it. A friend has two boys and a girl. All H names, and they have an H surname too.

notheragain41 · 23/11/2020 22:06

In my experience Harry is the most common by a country mile, my sons both have several Harrys for friends between them, but not a single Jack or George (not saying that will be true everywhere of course! I'm surprised we haven't come across a Jack).

Userzzz · 23/11/2020 22:24

You can’t go wrong with any of them. They are all great names!

Firebird83 · 23/11/2020 22:58

George is the most popular at the moment. It’s currently #2 in the name charts.

IckleBear · 24/11/2020 03:24

Erin and Oscar
Erin and Rufus
Erin and Alec

DitherFlicker · 24/11/2020 04:14

I once knew siblings called Erin and Max/Max and Erin. Easy to say and a good 'flow'.

Pudding01 · 24/11/2020 17:11

Just suggested Ralph Lawrence to him... Don't think he took it seriously 😂

OP posts:
YoniAndGuy · 24/11/2020 17:52

Ralph?! Wow, no!

londonscalling · 24/11/2020 17:58

All nice names but all a bit overdone now!

We've got a number of boys at school with alternative "old" names:

Freddie or Fred
Alfie
Albert or Bertie
Arthur
