Thoughts on Lazlo? I think it's funky!

Like the vampire?

lazlomaybe · 23/11/2020 03:13

Only just looked that up - did not know that reference, but I'm not mad at it!

VashtaNerada · 23/11/2020 03:18

I immediately thought vampire too...

Topseyt · 23/11/2020 03:21

I think it's weird. Sorry, I don't like it.

Longdistance · 23/11/2020 03:29

It’s spelt László. Never seen or heard of it as Lazlo.

lazlomaybe · 23/11/2020 03:30

"Origin: Slavic: Rules with glory. Short form of Vladislav, spelling variation of Laszlo."

So I guess it's just a bastardized version?

I think of Victor Lazlo from Casablanca.
I like it OP!

lazlomaybe · 23/11/2020 03:40

Woohoo, @GallopingGreen! We have one positive response Grin

I'm not too worried about slightly weird / vampy. I'm slightly weird and vampy too, probably!

I prefer Lazar

Longdistance · 23/11/2020 04:59

It’s actually Victor Laszlo from Casablanca. My grandfather was a Laszlo, my df was a Laszlo. My brother is Leslie, translated to Laszlo. It’s shortened to Laci.

MimiDaisy11 · 23/11/2020 08:07

I like it but I personally wouldn't use it as I don't have a connection to Eastern Europe.

KaptainKaveman · 23/11/2020 08:09

My friend's dad is Hungarian and has this name.

AriesTheRam · 23/11/2020 08:19

Unless you are Hungarian i think it's too try hard/weird

Skipsurvey · 23/11/2020 10:11

how about Lorenzo

CornedBeef451 · 23/11/2020 10:16

I like it!

VenusClapTrap · 23/11/2020 10:17

I like it but please spell it correctly.

BobGalaxy · 23/11/2020 10:27

It makes me think of Papa Lazarou from league of gentlemen. Not sure how relevant that is nowadays though!

Longdistance · 23/11/2020 11:15

It’s a cracking name if you’re Hungarian 🇭🇺

pinkpinecone · 23/11/2020 11:34

I do like the sound of it, think of it as a Hungarian name though and would only it if had a connection

Kanaloa · 23/11/2020 13:26

My dd loves this book called The Dark, which has a Laszlo in it. That’s my only association and I’m not totally sure how to pronounce it, I usually say Laz-lo. It’s a nice name but quite unusual.

ServeTheServants · 23/11/2020 13:30

Yes, as others have pointed out, it’s Hungarian. I think it’s nice, but would likely get shortened to Lazi / Laz.

lookdeepintotheparka · 23/11/2020 18:59

My DS is Laurence and we often call him Laszlo! As a nn it just stuck and it suits him!!

Firebird83 · 23/11/2020 22:53

It’s spelled Laszlo.

lazlomaybe · 23/11/2020 23:39

(Supposedly)

László (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈlaːsloː]) is a Hungarian male given name and surname after the King-Knight Saint Ladislaus I of Hungary (1077–1095). It derives from Ladislav, a variant of Vladislav. Other versions are Laslo, Lazlo, Lessl or Laszly. The name has a history of being frequently anglicized as Leslie.

Love it, but I would definitely spell it correctly - Laszlo.

It just doesn't look right without the S.
