My husband and I are expecting our first baby and have realised we favour names with the ‘om’ sound. Something about it seems warm to us. Any other names out there with a similar sound/feeling?

Lovely, I'd go for Ramona with Romy for short

Thomas/Tom is lovely

A new update: we mistakenly discovered in a scan that baby is a boy. Which we’re thrilled about other than the fact we had settled on Romy for our DD Grin Now that it’s a DS we have to knuckle down with a boys name, but Tom is off the list because of a family member using the name in January!

I know this sounds ridiculous but we can’t seem to think of any names other than Tom. I like Noah but DH thinks it’s “too notebook”. We also like Sam but again, close family member has taken it.

Any ideas for us?

Romy isn't an Om name, is it? I thought it was pronounced Rome-y.

Similar to Tom I think are Ben, Sam, Alex, Max, Dan, Fred/Freddie, James (Jim?), Jake, Jack.

Sort of traditional but short and cute.

If you like Tom, use Tom. I wouldn’t mind if my sibling used the same name as me especially with a solidly classic name like that. It’s a great name and trying to find one you like as much shows it’s the one you want.

Sorry a bit late to the party but love the name Ramona for a girl

partyatthepalace · 11/02/2021 20:33

Dan, Ben or Joe feel closest to Tom and Sam to me, though do think full names best for birth cert.

Luke, Jim (James), Rory, Rufus, Rafe, Milo
