I really love the name pronounced Saara (a bit like Zara)not Sarah. I used to work with a lovely lady called this. I think it's very pretty and not used much. What do others think?

And in 'The Little Princess' it is pronounced the same as Sarah. Nice name, but there will always be the pronunciation issue. Do you like Zara?

Lovely name. There are a few names with different pronunciations eg Lucia, where you just have to ask the person if it is Lucy-a or Luchia. I don’t see it being a massive problem. I love the association with The Little Princess and that it’s quite unusual.

I was at school in the 70s and 80s and every Sara I knew pronounced it differently to Sarah.

To me, Sara should rhyme with Zara, Cara and Tara.

It's a lovely name.

Yes many people do pronounce it to rhyme with Zara, Tara etc. And equally many people pronounce it the same as Sarah. Sara Pasco, Sara Cox etc as a pp mentioned. The Little Princess was definitely said as Sarah. And in the US the sah-ra pronunciation doesn't seem well known.

So there is ambiguity there. But if that doesn't bother the OP it's fine.

@Chilldonaldchill

I always pronounce Sara like you say and I think that's normal.
However I know one who spells it like that but pronounces it like Sarah so I think there are differences.
I prefer it to Sarah personally.

Ive only ever known Sara pronounced as youve said too. When did it change to being pronounced like Sarah?
