Using a friend of a friends baby name.

Okay so, my best friend who I’ve known since childhood used to work with someone who named their baby the same name as I want to name mine. I don’t know her personally, and have never met her my friend doesn’t see her very often and they live a long way away. They do catch up on the odd occasion there’s a group of them. In other words shes definitely closer to me than to them, and she literally never sees this child. Do you think this is an issue or no?

Oh gosh yes that’s fine. Bless you.
If she hears through your mutual friend that you have also named your daughter Aurora she wouldn’t have any logical reason to be annoyed whatsoever.

No idea how reliable it is mind you but I’d have thought they have a vague idea what they’re doing

They absolutely have an idea of what they are doing: they provide content to plug the gap between children being named and official statistics being published. They explain their methodology on this page. They rank the number of hits each name receives on their site, so while it is a good indicator of the names that parents are considering this doesn’t necessarily translate to the names being used. They keep pretty quiet about this however and release some very official looking press releases which are picked up and reported widely with minimal interrogation of the data.

Aurora has risen sharply in popularity in the last ten years and I agree with you that it will probably climb further, but there would have to be an extra 2000+ Auroras born in one year for it to make the top ten.

Go with it! You'd be hard pushed to find a name that no-one you know has some sort of connection to (unless going for something out there!).

I know 4 Sebastian's born in one summer - 2 the day after each other. Those two now also have a baby sister called Elodie.

None of those 4 families know each other - it's no big deal and given how little I post of social media I doubt they know now that they all picked the same name

Don't worry about it

I'm pregnant with my third and between all my friends kids and all the friends my existing kids have I would have to call this one Moonbat to avoid not crossing over with someone!
Definitely no need to worry if you don't know her

You’ll find it v hard to find a name that you don’t know someone with if you include friends of friends DC.

Go for it.
