Thoughts on my list

I’m not planning on having kids yet but like many I’ve had a names list since I was a kid

What do you think because the last thing I’d ever want is for my kids to be picked on because of their name:

Girl:
Vienna
Mila (mee-luh)
Ryder
Darcie

Boy:
Roman
Sebastian
Lorenzo

OP posts:

Honestly? I think a girl called Ryder would get far too much stick (crude jokes)

whatsbinhappnin · 15/11/2020 16:10

Ryder!?!?!

How about Riley?

Whatsyourflava · 15/11/2020 16:19

I love Mila and Darcie

I think Roman might be much more popular than you're expecting as it's the fastest rising boy name, on its way to top 20. Sebastian is quite high in the charts too. Just depends if popularity is a factor for you, some of your names are quite unusual so I thought it might be

Enderline · 15/11/2020 16:19

Ryder?! No way Blush

DramaAlpaca · 15/11/2020 16:22

We have very different taste in names.

The only thing I'd say, like others have, is that Ryder will get crude comments so I'd rethink that one.

FippertyGibbett · 15/11/2020 16:24

I like Darcy/Darcey and Roman.

NeutralJanet · 15/11/2020 16:24

Ryder is a boys name. Vienna just reminds me of the song, although I doubt many kids will have heard of it. Darcie is nice, Mila is ok.

I like Roman and Lorenzo, not so keen on Sebastian.

user1493494961 · 15/11/2020 16:27

I really like Sebastian but don't like any of the others.

RomillyTheRabbit · 15/11/2020 16:39

Sadly, I do wonder if a girl called Ryder would possibly get picked on I think...

Mila and Darcie are perfectly usual names and quite commonly used I think.

Vienna is unusual, but I don't think it would be something kids would laugh at necessarily. It's a bit like Viola / Violet and place names do come up now and then. Florence, Paris etc.

Roman and Sebastian are really popular names. Definitely no chance of them being picked on for those I wouldn't have thought, as most likely most kids will know more than one.

Lorenzo is lovely. I know one who is 6. His parents are Italian. It suits him really well.

Kanaloa · 15/11/2020 17:16

Ryder is really bad. It sounds like ride her and would lead to teasing and unkindness.

Vienna, Mila & Darcie all pretty and nice names. Think Mila is my favourite.

Roman, Sebastian and Lorenzo all lovely as well, I like Lorenzo best but the others are nice too.

FawnDrench · 15/11/2020 18:20

I really like Vienna. It's a beautiful name.

Not keen on any of the boy names, sorry.

Standrewsschool · 15/11/2020 18:22

Boys names are okay. Only like Darcie out of the girls names,

ChrissyPlummer · 15/11/2020 18:25

Darcie, Roman and Sebastian are OK. Round here Mila would be pronounced My-lah. Ryder is awful, sorry.

TildaTurnip · 15/11/2020 18:29

Girl:
Vienna - I’m not sure if I love it or hate it!
Mila (mee-luh) - ok
Ryder - too Paw Patrolly.
Darcie - Arsy Darcie

Boy:
Roman - increasingly popular. Ok.
Sebastian - not keen due to the harsh ‘bast’ sound but do like Seb as a shortening.
Lorenzo - ok

Actually, I think I do like Vienna but not the rest.

florascotia2 · 15/11/2020 18:54

OP We have very different taste in names, and there's nothing the matter with that. I do me, you do you.

But just in connection with the posters liking 'Vienna'. Have you been there? Yes, it has some nice bits and some spectacular buildings, but a really tragic history. Pre and post WWII. Also, to my mind, the middle today is touristy and rather kitsch; the outskirts are (like any other busy modern city) not so nice and slightly depressing.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 15/11/2020 19:21

Girl:
Vienna
Mila (mee-luh)
Ryder - in any English speaking school, she will get "ride her" jokes
Darcie

Boy:
Roman
Sebastian
Lorenzo - I dont really feel you can use this unless you have italian/Spanish heritage

ChelseeDagger · 15/11/2020 19:23

I like Vienna

Oooooohhhhhhhhh Vienna!

Sebastian is ok too.

NameChange84 · 15/11/2020 19:27

Girl:
Vienna - don’t like it sorry, reminds me of Vienetta. Prefer Siena and Verona if you are going with geographical names (Avila and Adelaide also name place names)
Mila (mee-luh) - like
Ryder - AWFUL DO NOT DO THIS TO A CHILD
Darcie - Fine

Boy:
Roman - Like
Sebastian - Like
Lorenzo - bit OTT unless you are actually Italian

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/11/2020 20:33

Ryder is not an appropriate name - please do not do this.

Vienna - not for me, but then Florence is very popular, so why not.

Darcy, Mila and Sebastian are nice.

Sadhoot · 15/11/2020 20:35

Are you American, OP?

August20 · 15/11/2020 20:38

I really like your boys list, especially Sebastian.

Out of your girls list I like Mila best. Ryder will result in crude jokes I would think.

Chewbecca · 15/11/2020 20:39

Sebastian is the best on this list.

Darcy (spelt this way) is nice too.

I would veto all the rest.

SaffieSoph · 15/11/2020 21:04

Darcie and Roman are my faves.

Madison0701 · 15/11/2020 21:56

I thought I’d answer a few questions :)

I saw a lot of the Ryder comments coming I don’t think I’d name my daughter it but it is one of my guilty pleasure names.

I’m half English half Spanish so that’s where I got Mila and Lorenzo from. My Nan loved the song Vienna by Billy Joel and used to sing it all the time before she passed so that would be a tribute to her. The others I just like :)

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/11/2020 12:25

In that case, fair enough for Lorenzo!
I'd go for Vienna or Mila, and Sebastian .
